Resident Evil 5 to get deathmatch-style Versus Mode

Sick of playing co-op in Resident Evil 5 aleady? Hate having to play as "the chick" while your friend plays as muscle bound Chris Redfield? Fortunately Capcom is thinking ahead and today announced a new, more egocentric multiplayer gameplay mode called Versus. Forget working as a team, just look out for #1.

The two new game types in Versus (Slayer's Rule -- kill Majinis, and Survivor's Rule -- kill each other) will be available for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and will set you back 400MS points ($5.00). No release date has been set, but look for it in the next "few weeks".

Tired of working together with other players in Resident Evil" 5? Ready to show your co-op partner exactly what you think of their gaming abilities? Capcom is pleased to announce that a new multiplayer mode for the soon-to-be blockbuster, Resident Evil 5, will be released post-launch as paid digital content via Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. The new mode, called Versus, adds a deadly twist to Resident Evil 5s multiplayer, pitting players against each other in a contest of survival, a marked departure from the central co-operative nature of the game.

Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayers Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivors Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

Versus will be available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network a few weeks after Resident Evil 5 is available. Versus will be available for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network. Versus mode requires the Resident Evil game software in order to be played. A broadband internet connection is required.

I dunno... RE5 Was fine the way it was, this seems like something that was taken out of the game so that they could charge for it... But at five bucks... I guess anyone who doesn't like the co-operative modes would like this.

Kubrick

If it doesn't add any achievements I don't really care. I'm sure it is fun but for what 2 games?

Toneman

It sucks they couldn't include this with the game... I hate it when they do that, but I really can't blame them. If anyone is interested in this feature, 5$ is very reasonable, and they'll make tons more money. AT LEAST THIS DLC ISN'T EXCLUSIVE... THANKS CAPCOM!!!

So does this mean splitscreen online, like four players in the same room only they play online? I've been very very very infuriated with the lack of four player splitscreen in this gen games. Needless to say this game is awesome.

i feel the same as you toneman but im more anoyed. lets see, we have cardboard boxes which are indestructable, what is with that, we have a close hanger or plants which are as hard and as rigid as a wall which you cannot pass trough, you have buildings which are a metre higher than you and you cant jump up onto the roof, you cant walk whilee holding your gun, you have a ai partner which leaves you in a tight spot more than you like, you have a crappy interface which feels so out of date that its hard to believe, you cant turn 180 insatntly like in other resy games, and all this before i get to the mines.this game dosent deserve the the review score that it got. i like the co-op online and the upgrade system for the weapons and the story but res evil 4 did all this before, this game hasnt improved, next gen my arshivel, it is just eye candy and that is why its considdered the fifth best resy game in the series and not the first. poor show capcom. i give this game a score of 85% and that is being generous.
