Joining the recently revealed Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are budget priced editions of the formerly-GameCube exclusive Resident Evil Zero and the remake of the original Resident Evil.
With Resident Evil 5 releasing this week, and news of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles) dropping yesterday, you would think Capcom would be all out of Resident Evil goodness to shower the masses with. You would think wrong. This morning, the company announced Wii-enhanced versions of two of the company's most overlooked games--the GameCube remake of the original Resident Evil, and the series prequel, Resident Evil Zero.
Don't they know if they just duck the zombies will comically bump into each other?
Sold under the "Resident Evil Classics" line, the two former GameCube exclusives will be hitting US shelves later this year for the lower-than-average price of $29.99. Both games promise new control schemes set to utilize the Wii Remote. Both games were released in Japan last year, according to IGN, with little else added besides Wii controls.
In addition to the announcement of the "Resident Evil Classics" line, Capcom also released the first screenshots of The Darkside Chronicles, some of which follow (you can see the rest on the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles screenshot page). The press release announcement is reprinted after.
CAPCOM(r) BRINGS RESIDENT EVIL(r) BACK TO THE WIITM WITH RESIDENT EVIL(r): THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES AND TWO TITLES IN THE RESIDENT EVIL "CLASSICS" LINE
Sequel to Resident Evil(r): The Umbrella Chronicles, joins Resident Evil Zero and the Nintendo Gamecube(r) remake of Resident Evil on the Wii Platform
SAN MATEO, Calif. - March 12, 2009 --
Capcom(r), a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced its plans for a big comeback of its multi-million-selling franchise, Resident Evil(r) to the Wii(tm) video game system this year. Resident Evil(r): The Darkside Chronicles, the sequel to the highly successful Wii title Resident Evil(r): The Umbrella Chronicles, is in development exclusively for the Wii and is set to hit North American retailers this winter. Capcom also introduced its plans for a new Resident Evil "Classics" line, which will bring the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube(tm) classics, Resident Evil(r) and Resident Evil(r) Zero exclusively to the Wii, allowing a whole new audience to experience the world of Resident Evil."We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it's the perfect fit for the platform," said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience."
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles's story is based on Resident Evil 2 and includes the popular characters, Leon S Kenney and Claire Redfield. Its on-rails style gameplay and active camera will create a more immersive "Chronicles" survival experience. As in the last installment, this is a first-person game with extreme shooting gameplay and interactive pathways. Filling in many of the missing pieces of storyline that were not covered in the original "Umbrella Chronicles", Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will give hardcore fans the chance to re-live some of the most classic moments of the Resident Evil franchise, while allowing new players to take advantage of the intense action-horror experience only possible on the Wii.
Gamers can choose to take on their enemies with the help of an A.I.-controlled character or enlist the help of a friend to fight via two-player co-op. Adding new dimension and strategy to the arcade-style gameplay in the "Chronicles" experience, the new Evade system will utilize the Wii Remote for a more intense experience when fighting enemies.
Capcom's new Resident Evil "Classics" line will allow the new audience who has embraced the Wii to experience some of the greatest games in the Resident Evil franchise for the value price of $29.99. Both set to launch this year, the remake of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero have been refitted to support the Wii Remote, giving the Wii audience easy access to the rich characters and in-depth storylines of the series and the chance to experience both games on a new platform. More information on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and the Resident Evil "Classics" Line will be revealed in the coming months.

you can candy coat it all you want but they are STILL LEFTOVERS. Capcom been porting RE games on every system so Wii is no different. I would rather buy the CG version for less than $10 than a $30 port with motion controll. Capcom is wagging its middle finger in the faces of Wiiboys and laughing all the way to the bank. Capcom is becoming the new Hollywood , remake a classic and hope that your target audience never played/seen it.

This is better news than that stupid on-rails sequal. These Wiimakes will probably be in the 30-40$ price range, and since I've never played them, it's new to me :)

One more thing, if you had the GC, there is no way in hell that you overlooked a RE game. Unless that wasn't your type of game. Those two games were in heavy rotation in used game bin and there are tons of those games still out there for GC.

I'm usually one for re-envisioning, but do we really need so many Wii-makes? At this rate, we'll have Wii-makes and shovelware ratio 1:1. I like my Wii and i loved the Gamecube, but i'm starting to think the best of the Wii was generations before, (Gamecube, Wii-makes, Virtual Console, etc.)

They could have used these resources to make a new game for the Wii, instead we get two ports and an on rail port compilation. I am so happy capcom.

I'm sorry but this is what frustrates me. Reheated left overs. I hate it when someone basically repackages and sells it as new. It's like going to a pizza place, asking for a fresh pizza and getting something they made yesterday, just calling it new.
ENOUGH!

RE:UC was just a piece of crap with very annoying controls. However I do have hope for Darkside Chronicles as it does look better and covers with RE2 which is major win in my book.
However I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing all these stupid companies that have a fetish with releasing older games on the Wii with retarded tacked on motion controls. *sigh*
I'd much rather jusy play RE and RE0 on the Gamecube since I already have them for that system to begin with, I'm not going to go out and buy them again. Get a grip Capcom T_T
