Wall Street Journal tackles racism in Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5's highly anticipated release is just days away, The Wall Street Journal's Jamin Brophy-Warren kicks the bee's nest that is the subject of racial connotations in Resident Evil 5.
A subject that's raised controversy since the game's debut trailer, Resident Evil 5 has constantly been forced to deal with rumors regarding the game's African setting, and seemingly racist connotations. Earlier today, The Wall Street Journal's Jamin Brophy-Warren rekindled this issue with an editorial on the ongoing debate. But discussions about colonialism are only dealt with obliquely in the game -- Chris never reflects on his position as a white male in Africa nor does he discuss race with his African partner, Sheva. The game presents only one option to survive against African zombies: kill every single one.
While Capcom's Jun Takeuchi has repeatedly reported his stance on this issue, stating that:
There is no racial element to it at all.
Still, infected or not, I have a feeling that this subject won't be put to rest until the game's Friday release, where gamers can decide for themselves.

This is so damn stupid. It's a game set in Africa, of course the people are going to be black. It would be more racist if you fought no one but white people in Africa. And I'm not even white but I'm getting tired of all this racism bullshit. If this game is considered racism than all games staring Blade should be considered racism because he kills alot of white people in America. Well, white vampires. I'm just saying.

This is pretty stupid. Africa was only used as a massive change in setting. The colors and tones of the landscape completely contrasts the previous four.

....and why haven't we called the other four racist against caucasians? It's the people who pointed this out that should be called hypocrites and racists.

Well as a white person I could flip it around and say hey thats racist to white people, because they are actually all ganging up on the white guy for having a black girlfriend partner.
though people take things to serious now days, even in video games just drop it.
it's just zombies

what an idiot. the word racism never crossed my mind when looking at pictures or reading info about this game, until some idiots said it was racist, and I don't think it is the case. peace and love to everyone, except maybe for this idiot, if someone knows him, give him a punch in his butt for me.

"The game presents only one option to survive against African zombies: kill every single one."
Are they supposed to negotiate a f*cking treaty with zombies or what the hell? How else do you survive against zombies? Damn contreversy rising journalist. Zombies arent smart, all they know is how to kill. They don't stop and think " maybe this guy has a family". and if you're being attacked by a black zombie, are you gonna think "shiiit! I'm.... Not.... RACIST!!!" Dumbasses.
