Showing strong numbers in its first day on Japan shelves, Resident Evil 5 looks to hit U.S. shores hard.
Resident Evil 5 is clearly poised to be the next king of the hill, selling 278,000 units in its first day on Japanese shelves. According to Gamezine.co.uk, this should be more than enough to throne Japan's current best selling title, Yakuza 3, but the end of the week. So far, the PlayStation 3 has proven to be the console of choice for Capcom's survival horror masterpiece, raking in 222,000 copies, with the Xbox 360 picking up scraps at 56,000 copies.
This screenshot pretty much describes Resident Evil 5's PS3 sales so far (they're on fire!).
This is great news for Capcom, especially considering the hype accompanied with Famitsu plot teasers, insanely popular demos, and the inclusion of fan favorite modes like Mercenaries. Stay frosty: Resident Evil 5 is hitting American shelves on March 13 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Keep watching for GamePro's review!
What's more incredible is that Resident Evil 5 has beaten launch day sales of Resident Evil 4. The game sold 117,000 copies for the Gamecube in January 2005 and 145,000 copies for the PlayStation 2 in December 2005. Resident Evil 5 has surpassed that combined number.
Not only has the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined sales managed to best both, the PlayStation 3 managed the feat all by itself.
Here's another tasty statistic. The Xbox 360 version of Resident Evil 5 outsold the Nintendo release of Resident Evil 4 (27,000) and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (53,000). Oh yes, the Xbox 360 isn't doing that bad at all in Japan. -- Gamezine.co.uk

I am officially DONE with this website. I can't take anymore of the FLAME articles. Why not just report how well RE5 did in Japan? Why the comments like "with the Xbox 360 picking up scraps at 56,000 copies" when we all know that the PS3 is the console of choice in JAPAN? I hope that the survey I filled out yesterday gets in the right hands!

I think this is better news for the PS3 than anything, it shows that the support is still there for Sony if they would just start putting out more games that gamers want. I have all the newest games for the PS3 and it all just feels like more of the same to me, I can just hope with this generation of poor sales for Sony they will invest in better games with better ideas.

We all know that Lamepros are Sony's beeyotches! Hurray for PS3! It's about time Sony won at something next-gen. By the way, this demo sucked! I downloaded it on xbox live(the system that had the download first) and it was horrible. I have played every R.E b4 this one and am sad to say I have no excitement about the release date in America. The controls were too restricting and the camera was unimpressive too.

Japan must of bought it on the PS3 because the game controls poorly and the PS3 is an inferior controller than the 360. jk
I can't wait to play this next Friday.
