Nintendo predicts DSi shortages this holiday season

While the Nintendo DSi hasn't even come out in the USA and Europe, the video game manufacturer is predicting that the prized portable will be in short supply come holiday time.
Gameindustry.biz has uncovered a quote from a UK Nintendo exec in the UK newspaper website The Times that reveals the company might have yet another holiday season filled with hardware shortages. While the Wii has upped production to the point where finding one isn't the result of a wild goose chase (that role now belongs to Wii Fit), David Yarnton, Nintendo's UK General Manager seems to thing that the Nintendo DSi will be this year's impossible to find item. When asked whether gamers should buy the DSi early, Yarnton replied:
I always advise people to buy early. One of the things that people don't seem to understand is that factories are producing constantly; they don't peak and trough. So we're producing product all the time, but then everyone wants it all at the one end of the year. It's just so hard to try and keep up.
For those who want to heed Yarnton's words, the Nintendo DSi is due out on April 5 in the US, and will cost $169.99. If you're wondering whether the portable will be worth the price, GamePro had extensive hands-on time with the handheld recently and produced this Nintendo DSi preview.

its not just a camara, its two camaras, an sd slot for downloads and updates like the psp, a music utility, photo utility and with future updates they can offer more utility programes. this is a major change of direction for the ds system. this will be worth a system change and it comes at a price tag very reasonable and those who dont have the system will certainly be interested in the dsi now that it will be a multifuncional system now.

Gotta love that artificial scarcity.....This has been in the works for how long? Pretendo knows just because they make it, tons of fanboys will stampede. How about actually putting out more than a trickle. I'll be glad when Apple finally dominates....they too can ride out the motion control gimmick, and they have a way better app distribution model. Looks like someone's gonna get stomped in a mud hole.

Artificial scarcity? I still think Sony is the king of that. Remember the PS3 launch resulted in gun point robberies and e bay hysteria.
