Analyst predicts cheaper PS3 without Blu-ray

PS3 without Blu-ray? What?!
According to analyst Mike Hickey, Sony could be announcing a price drop for the PS3 of about $100 by April. Without a price drop, he predicts the PS3 sales will continue to plummet.
But the analyst is also predicting a new Blu-ray-less PS3 in the near future. Now, how the system could even play the Blu-ray games without a Blu-ray player is beyond me. But let's say it can, let's pretend the PS3 can play the games without the added Blu-ray DVD player. If you did not/do not already own a PS3, would you buy it without the added Blu-ray DVD player for a cheaper price or would you want that still to be included?
Remember, this is all speculation and rumor, none of this has been confirmed.

I don't care about Blu-Ray right now cause I don't have the tv for it and the price for Blu-Ray DVD's are still way to much. But eventually with price drops and everything I would need a blu-ray player and it would be nice to have one built in.

I was actually already leaning more towards a PS3 than a 360. Considering i dont have an HD-TV, this would sit just fine with me

the bluray player is a huge part of getting a ps3 for me. The only ps3 exclusives that i need are mgs4 or gow3. so a ps3 for $250 without bluray playback? meh..maybe. but i'd be buying a $150 bluray player first.

No offense but most of the PS3 game library is in blu-ray format. So unless the game publishers re-release all of their blu-ray titles in non-blu-ray formats, these "non-blu-ray" PS3's will not be able to play more than half of the existing PS3 game library. Off the top of my head that would mean no Killzone 2, no Uncharted, no MGS4, no Heavenly Sword, no MAG, no Motorstorm, no GoWIII, no CoD4 or CoD:WAW, no Prince of Persia, no LBP, no Assassin's Creed and counting. Sure some of these games could be re-released in DVD's (i.e. Assassin's Creed, CoD and PoP) but they are currently in blu-ray format. I'm not that sura that many developers are willing to re-do and re-ship their games in a different format at this point of the game (it costs more $).

That's just ridiculous... what about all the games that are on BD discs? NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
