VIDEO: Metal Gear Solid Touch looks like an iPhone game

Konami released a trailer for the formerly mysterious Metal Gear Solid Touch late yesterday. After a vague teaser and scant photographs, the trailer, shown below, provides the first glimpses of gameplay footage for the iPhone/iPod Touch title.

The trailer makes it abundantly clear that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be the source material, making numerous references to the game and its bosses. The majority of gameplay seems to be a target-based shooter in the vein of Wii Play's Shooting Range minigame. There was also a hand-to-hand fighting sequence featuring Old Snake taking on his arch-nemesis Revolver Ocelot.

Metal Gear Solid Touch is set to head to the iPhone and iPod Touch this spring. You can find out more information at Konami's official Metal Gear Solid Touch site.

THE VERDICT by Dave Rudden Dave Rudden's Avatar

Ugh. Really? The iPhone is home to some pretty innovative ideas, and shoehorning a stealth franchise into a stale static gameplay style seems like wasted potential. I'd love to be proved wrong, though.

Exactly. Every new Metal Gear game is like an event. This game just looks like a plain vanilla "touch the screen to shoot" iPhone title. Not what I was expecting when they announced that one of the most innovative franchises in gaming was headed to one of the most innovative new game platform.

The graphics look impressive in screens, but in motion it's a choppy mess. This seems to be going the route of Metal Gear Ac!d rather than Portable Ops in terms of fun factor.

Surprisingly I'm not to impressed by the looks of this game. I doubt I'll get it until it drops to like 3 bucks.
