Capcom revealed their "Monday Mystery Game" with a trailer for Lost Planet 2 premiering on Xbox Live Marketplace.
After teasing gamers nationwide last week with a mysterious promise of a game reveal, Capcom came through with an announcement for Lost Planet 2. The sequel to the 2007 action-shooter Lost Planet will be coming to the Xbox 360 (presumably), with no other consoles, nor a release date announced. The game will be produced by the man behind Resident Evil 5, Jun Takeuchi.
The entire trailer, which can be viewed below, runs roughly ten minutes, and features an intro and conclusion from Takeuchi, about 3 minutes of game footage, and a Q&A with designer Kenji Oguro. The gameplay was almost entirely real-time (we're guessing the cinematics end when you see the soldiers on the raft), and showed a broader variety of environments, human enemies, squad-based gameplay, as well as series staples in grappling hook movement and gigantic aliens. The Q&A revealed that Lost Planet 2 will be taking place 10 years after the original, and will feature many playable characters as well as an increased emphasis on cooperative gameplay. The trailer and a press release are below.
Xbox LIVE Members Receive Exclusive First Glimpse of "Lost Planet 2"Today, Xbox 360 owners across the globe have front row seats to the exclusive unveiling of Capcom's "Lost Planet 2." Announced for the first time via an exclusive seven-minute downloadable video in English and Japanese, gamers will get a sneak peek of what they can expect when the third-person shooter returns to Xbox 360. Also included is a video intro by "Lost Planet 2" producer, Jun Takeuchi and a Q&A with the game's director Kenji Oguro.
The sequel to the blockbuster "Lost Planet: Extreme Condition," which debuted on Xbox 360 two years ago, takes place on the planet E.D.N. III 10 years after the conclusion of the original title. During that time a massive climate change has taken place which has melted the snow and created brand-new environments, including a new lush jungle setting which gamers will get their first glimpse of in the new trailer. The gameplay of "Lost Planet 2" has evolved in a new unique experience that allows players to control various groups of Snow Pirates giving them a variety of different perspectives throughout the journey. The developers also felt it was important to listen to the fans and Capcom is proud to announce that a new type of co-op mode will be implemented into the game.
The video is made almost entirely from real in-game footage, giving Xbox 360 owners and "Lost Planet" aficionados around the world plenty to be excited about from the next installment of the hit franchise.

I only played a demo of the first one. I watched the trailer on Xbox live and it looks pretty cool. The game has potential. I really liked the use of the grappling hook.
I'm disappointed that it is not Marvel Vs. Capcom 3..god damnit.

I might just pass on this one. I didn't like the first one at all and only finished it because I wanted to get the most out of the money I spent on it. They will have to really improve the game for me to even consider buying it.

Hmmmm...this looks like something I might be interested in. Didn't play the 1st one, no trophies so I probably won't go back and play it either. Wait a minute..only Xbox??? What the hell...oh well, I won't really miss it I guess.

This could very well be a PS3 release--seeing as how almost every game Capcom releases is multi-platform, I'd be surprised if it wasn't. But since the trailer debuted on the 360 and no announcement was made otherwise, I'm not going to make any assumptions about the other platforms.

I was so excited to hear what the announcement was going to be this morning by Capcom, and then I saw it was for Lost Planet 2. Seriously Capcom you've been on a roll lately but I don't feel like a lot of people were waiting around for an announcement about Lost Planet 2. What's it going to take for there to be a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 HD or even a 3? I mean MvC2 sells on Ebay for like $60 or more. You can't be that blind that gamers have been waiting and asking for this game forever... As for Lost Planet 2 I think I'll skip this one seeing how I wasn't really impressed by the first one.

I was completely and udderly disappointed at this announcement. From the way they were talking about it being in high demand for a follow up game. Do people really complain that much about there just being 2 lost planets already. Pretty big let down Capcom. Lost Planet was not that good. And klawson as for MvC it would have to take massive co-op from Marvel and Capcom to do it. And I think Marvel is over it.

I'm sure it'll be multiplatform.

Looks like a lot of fun. Should've seen this one coming from a mile away. I still need to complete the full version of Lost Planet 1.
