A NYC Councilwoman is holding a conference this morning about RapeLay, a new PC video game "simulating brutal gang rape and other horrifying sexual violence."

Rape video game boycotted by New York City Council

GamePolitics reports that New York City Councilwoman Christine Quinn is holding a news conference this morning at 11:00 A.M. to call for a ban of RapeLay, a controversial PC game that encourages players to rape women, including a mother and her two daughters.

The video game Councilwoman Quinn will be protesting in Manhattan's City Hall was forcefully removed from Amazon.com's online catalogue. In addition to allowing players to commit various forms of sexual assault, RapeLay's players must also avoid the "dangers of pregnancy" while attacking victims.

Even though pornographic games like RapeLay are not sold by major video game stores like GameStop and EBGames, Quinn is still calling for U.S. retailers to not distribute RapeLay.

In the press release for the news conference, RapeLay

will be the subject of a news conference hosted by [Quinn]... who will call on all U.S. video distributors to refuse its distribution or sale... The "game" is now available in the U.S. market...

This game sounds stupid who would make a game like this so much for good ideas

I think it's great that this game is being banned. Our society is sick enough with the use of drugs (legal like beer or illegal like marijuana), and also because of the use of guns, violence, etc etc etc. People just don't need this kind of sick videogames. I mean, who wants more rappers in the streets????? I think the game is a stupid idea made from idiotic and sick people... think about it, who would want a game like this one? Only perverted people.

No offense but I don't see how playing a game that encourages players to engage in rape and gang-rape actions can be productive for a human being's development. This game is obviously marketed towards persons with eschewed sexual tastes (those who apparently enjoy either forceful sex, violence, subjugation and/or domination).

Really people, is this where we draw the line. I wouldn't think a game like this would be created at all but it's not the point. It's a game move on, don't play it. Your drawing the line at rape, but not mass murder or extreme violence, kind of hypocritical isn't? Probably a good chunk of players play GTA series and look at the violence in games. Games are games, they're not real. Just don't play it, to each his own entertainment, although people who buy this game should be locked up into a mental health facility imo

What idiot would make a game like this? I first read the article and thought it would be about a game taken out of context but you can't take this out of context. The bad thing is that this game will be a lasting immpression to certain non gamers about video games.

As sad as it is to say, society simply accepts murder and violence as an everyday occurance. When you hear about murders almost every day, you begin to expect it and it then makes it OK by societal standards to include such violence in entertainment media. The fact that rape cases are not something we hear in the news frequently (once every 2-3 days) mean that our society has not been "forced" to accept such behavior, and therefore there is an outcry over this game.

Now I'm not against sexually explicit games in general, but this is disturbing. By putting something like this in a popular media format it essentially legitimizes rape, and that is not right at all.

First off you make a good point but I think (IMO) it's because usually in games we're killing "bad guys" or in some cases (like GTA) it's sort of a spoof of society (not that it makes it any less violent) you never see a game where you go into a house and murder a young mom and her baby or anything like that. This game depicts one of the worst things you could ever do to a person and it not like killing the "bad guys" in a game like CoD4. It would take a very sick person to enjoy this game.
