EA has announced Dead Space: Extraction, an all-new lightgun shooter chapter of the outer-space survival horror saga for the Nintendo Wii.

EA announced this morning that the Dead Space series will continue this fall with Dead Space: Extraction, an all-new adventure on the Nintendo Wii. Set before the events of the original PS3/Xbox 360 Dead Space, Extraction will be a first-person shooter with a female protagonist. The game will be developed by EA Redwood Shores, the same team behind the previous iteration of the series. In an interview with IGN, executive producer Steve Papoutsis revealed that the game will be an on-rails shooter in the vein of House of the Dead: Overkill and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Like those games, Dead Space Extraction will feature co-op.

Along with the announcement, EA has provided a teaser trailer (which you can see below) that seemingly mixes gameplay and cinematics. The press release is reprinted after the trailer.

Redwood City, CA - February 18, 2009 - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed Dead Space(tm) Extraction, an all-new chapter from the studio that delivered the award-winning action-horror Dead Space game. Built from the ground up and developed exclusively for the Wii(tm), Dead Space Extraction is a prequel that reveals the events leading up to Isaac Clarke's mission on the USG Ishimura in the original Dead Space game released in 2008. Dead Space Extraction will marry the innovative motion controls of the Wii Remote with a frenetic first person perspective to create a new action-packed horror experience.

Dead Space Extraction tells the story of a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space. The game introduces a new heroine to the fiction and as the crew fall victim to a mysterious contagion aboard the ship, it becomes clear that protecting her may be their only hope for survival. Dead Space Extraction introduces all new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and co-operative multiplayer gameplay.

Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction," said Glen Schofield, VP and General Manager of EA Redwood Shores studio. "As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect."

Dead Space Extraction is an EA Redwood Shores title and is scheduled to ship in Fall 2009. This product has not yet rated by ESRB or PEGI.

Another new Dead Space within a year of the original? Yes plz. While I wish it could feature the same style as it's HD predecessor, House of the Dead and Resident Evil have proven lightgun games can work on the Wii.

btw, who wants dead space watered down with low res and sprinkled with a lil false next gen control. The WIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When your graphicly best looking game looks like Quake 3(360 launch title) you have some serious lack of gpu power.....fail.

I meant quake 4.....geez....4 is right beside the 3....beside i just popped in q4 and it looks horrible now.....i thought it was fantastic in 05

I with you weinymew. Wiiboys will cry and say its not about the graphics but about the games. Wii has about 6-10 must have games, which most are from Nintendo, and the rest are shit. The original Xbox could do 720p but the next gen wii can't. If it keeps gramps and the kids entertained, then thats a good thing. I'll wait for a true sequel to Dead Space.

lol.....6-10 must haves? i counted 5 and I have them all.....I guess some guys HAVE to make their fat ass girlfriends play wii fat....umm...er wiifit. That things is the new tread mill. noone uses it.

it looks good and more than likely it will play well. the wiiiiiiiiiiiiis time is now. didnt you guys read that the wii is this gens ps2. just like last gen the xbox was more powerfull and finnished in second with the ps2 the weaker/less powerfull machine of the 3 main consoles winning last gen. this gen it is quite obvious that the wii is the less powerfull console so stop whinning and except the fact that its kicking ass and taking names. go wii go.

Are you serious Albinac? Yes the Ps2 had a weaker chip set than the gc(the old wii) and xbox, however, all three were in the same neighborhood. The wii compared to the ps3 and 360 is like comparing a genisis to the ps2.

i am not comparing the wii with the other two all of you are. the wii is not in the same league as the other two. that fact was made clear from day one and yet everybody just keeps comparring the wii to the other two to diss it. its not a contender for graphical power. but it is seriously crapping all over the xbox360 which i think is a greath machine even with its mechanical faults and the ps3 which i have. that is what im saying.

This is probably going to be the suckiest port of all time. You cant have a game like dead space in first person. it takes all the horror away, and it would give you an extreme headache. and this is not a sexist statement but i dont think that a girl could handle the stuff like Issac's adventure
