Hudson announces first-person shooter for WiiWare

Hudson announced its latest WiiWare title earlier today, Onslaught, and it's... it's a first-person shooter -- specifically with four-player online co-op... on WiiWare!

This is baffling on so many levels. Why is a Japanese company like Hudson developing a FPS in the first place? How are they going to work out four-player online co-op without friend codes becoming too much of a hassle? Why is anyone releasing a new game with graphics so simple their product looks identical to stuff released about ten years ago that you can play for free now? I just... I just don't understand.

Hudson Entertainment Set To Publish The First FPS For WiiWare As Onslaught Opens Fire On Wii

Spring 2009 Completion of Onslaught Gives Core Gamers What They've Demanded

San Mateo, CA - Feb. 5, 2009 - Wii(tm) console owners will soon be challenged to survive massive amounts of creepy crawlers in Onslaught, the first ever first person shooter (FPS) for WiiWare(tm), which is set to be published by Hudson Entertainment, the North American publishing arm of HUDSON SOFT. In Onslaught, players will take on hordes of insect cyborgs to save a distant research colony. Development will be complete this spring and has been rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

"It's clear that core gamers feel that there's a void in games that cater to them on Wii," said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Product Development at Hudson Entertainment. "With Onslaught, we're aiming to fill that void and give gamers the option of an affordable, accessible, first person shooter experience on the Wii - something that hasn't been done before."

In Onslaught, players are sent on a mission to find the reason contact with a distant research colony was lost. Upon arrival, they find themselves attacked by an overwhelming horde of giant bugs. Players use the Nunchuk(tm) and Wii Remote(tm) to aim, shoot, reload and toss grenades at the creatures in order to survive. As the bugs get bigger, so do the weapons. Jump into fighting vehicles when the situation arises and send the insects crawling back to their holes. With online capabilities for four person co-op, players can also link up and play with friends to battle the bugs together, without fear of friendly fire.

FPS on the Wii? I'm sure it'll be a great game with watered down graphics and controls. The Nintendo fanboys will have a fun time playing the shit, I mean game. LMFAO

Sounds kinda promising, the must be trying to bring some diversity to WiiWare. I'm not getting on the hype train just yet, but I'll keep an eye on this one.

It looks like Jet Force Gemini, in a way.

I'm a hell of a lot more excited about The Conduit.

Meh. Yet another first person shooter. I was hoping these would stay off the Wii for the most part. The other two consoles are saturated with them.

Why wouldnt u want fps' on the wii? All the wii has is stupid kid games like gardening mama or cooking mama. Wtf is that? You really want to fake garden? It's about time they add games for shooting fans. Although i have to admit this one looks weak. I can't wait for madworld, though.

Why even bother with this?! I'd rather play one of the 4,000 REAL FPS's. Unless you own ONLY a Wii and have never played a FPS...don't bother.
