Regardless of how the game actually stacks up, Resident Evil 5 will be a big-seller this year (out Mar. 13), thanks to its pedigree and record-smashing demo downloads.

Some of the GamePro staff were a little let down by the demo, however. Survival horror in midday, antiquated controls, and a wonky inventory system were primary among initial complaints. Others asked: Should a Resident Evil game, where eerie isolation has been such an important part of its past, even attempt co-op play?

GameGirl.com expressed "mixed emotions" on the demo, but remained upbeat, concluding, "this one looks like a buy."

But what do you think, kind reader? Did the Resident Evil 5 demo fail, meet, or exceed your expectations? Why/why not?

I will buy the game for sure since I love the series and played all of the main games in the series but I actually agree with the antiquated controls, wonky inventory and survival horror in midday parts. I didn't like how the controls felt at all and that's a big concern. I looked at the graphics and they are gorgeous but the game looks more like an action one rather than survival horror. The inventory is not user friendly at all. I think that Capcom is trying too hard to make something different with this game to the point where it actually doesn't feel like a RE game anymore.

I posted this on the other RE5 story. But since it's related:

I was looking forward to the release of RE5 and it was like Christmas all over again when I fired up the demo, then reality set in. The controls to me (even after I tweaked the control settings) just seemed awkward and a bit slow. I was expecting the game control to be even better than Dead Space, but in my opinion they are not. It was a little frustrating and kind of took the fun out of the demo. I had a friend come over to try it and they felt the same in regard to game control (graphics and character models look great). So, this is another title that I will most likely wait for the price to drop to around the 29.99 - 39.99 price range.

I've played the deomo and loved it. It's not perfect but I'm glad that they have co-op in this one. I've stoped playing one player games and hope that all games well include co-op for now on. I'm deffinetly picking this one up. I'll probably pre order it tomorrow.

Antiquated controls? It wouldn't be Resident Evil without those controls.
The thing I'm worried most about is that RE 5 will focus on action rather than horror. RE 4 had the perfect setting for a survival horror game and this new installment kind of seems like a bad formula. Hopefully we'll be able to exterminate some Las Plagas in pitch darkness rather than broad daylight for part of the game.
I think co op does bring down the intenseness of the game but at the same time, we're kind of excited about it. As for the inventory screen, I'm a little bummed (where's my 74 x 104 case!?!?). However, the quick-access d-pad does, in a way, make up for that. Being just one touch away from a pistol while equipped with a shotgun is pretty handy. Still, exactly how many guns/ammo/herbs are we going to be allowed to carry? 9 slots just isn't enough.
I was a little disappointed with the demo, but still, I can't wait.

i am sad to say this but as much as i wanted to like it , i did not.yes the graphics were great but the controls to me personaly were horrible .slow rotation wile aiming even when i put it at its fastest and i think the over the shoulder aiming could have been better ,it kinda makes me regret perordeing it now but i still have some hope for the game since this was just a demo but im just not as exited about it anymore.

Downloaded the demo last week on XboxLive. I thought it was alright. I have two gripes... the targeting system sucks and the chic always gets in the way.

THe game looks phenomenal. Controls are standard RE controls which is also great. Everything else sucks. Who ever thought of CO-Op for a survival horror game. That is the stupidest thing ever. There are no scares to be had in this game. The chick does always get in the way so that completely sucks as well. Hopefully RE 6 will have no co-Op and will be a standard RE game. Lets see if there are going to be any fans of the series left after this brilliant-stupid co-op invention for a survival horror game move from capcom.
Where is the DARKNESS where is the HORROR? I thought I would be playing the demo all day yesterday i didn't even spent half an hour with it.

I sure hope they're reading these forums..I think stickng to the old controls was stupid , they really need to take example on how most of these games are controled. I think they walk too slow , I don't think the zombies are scary at all how they run up to you then stop..the graphics are awesome but the game is weak:. I think pickng up herbs is old the inventory system needs fixing and not being able to run and gun was the nail in the coffin for me..I don't care if they delay this game till chrismass..please get it right.. I wanted his game to be awesome
