Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon reveals that work on the next Mortal Kombat video game is already well under way. Hints at reveal coming soon.
Shacknews reveals that Midway is already "hard at work" on the next installment in their flagship bloody fighting franchise, Mortal Kombat. This news about what will be the ninth Mortal Kombat comes only two months after the release of the last game in MK series, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Are you ready for more Mortal Kombat?
Midway, which is currently over $200 million in debt, included the news about a new Mortal Kombat video game in a press release detailing the shipment figures for MK vs. DC.
"We're already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future," says Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon.
There's no word yet whether Mortal Kombat 9 will be in the vein of the gorier editions of Mortal Kombat or if it'll continue Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe's toned-down approach to violence. It should be noted that despite MK vs. DC's Teen-rating, the game was actually well received and even earned 4 out of 5 stars by GamePro.
You can read the original story on the next MK game on Shacknews.
Say what you want about MK vs. DC Universe, it's certainly not devoid of all bloodshed as demonstrated by Baraka here. (CLICK HERE for more HD screens of the game!)

mk vs. dc was geat but it was a little short on content. Obviosuly it would have been cooler if they did an m rating but if MK 9 has nothing to do with superhero liscences, I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn't go back to being rated M. You could tell that MK vs. DC was basically an m rated game that was toned down to get a teen rating basically because DC didn't want to have superman decapitated. The best recent MK game, not counting Mk vs. DC, was Deception becauae of the remarkably deep konquest mode that acted as a game within a game. I'm a comic fan so i was hoping for something epic like that in the MK vs. DC game and while the linear story was fun and it was cool to see the characters all interact, I was still a little disapointed. Still, if the game is basically the same as MK vs. DC, with added gore, characters, and something like a Konquest mode, MK 9 will be great.

Mortal kombat games suck anymore, the best ones are the classic 2D ones, 4 was the only good 3D mortal kombat. They really need to make this one like the classics with good fatalities, rather than the shitty ones they have now.
