PS3 price cut in April, says analyst

Would you buy an 80GB PS3 for just $300?
PS3 to $300 in April?
PC World -- Would a $100 price drop have swayed you to nab a PS3 in lieu of an Xbox 360 or Wii over the holidays? Does the prospect of $300 Blu-ray playback make you swoon even a little?
Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter gazes into his crystal ball and says a $100 drop will happen this April, a move that will allow sales of the device to "once again begin to grow."
What's more, he think Microsoft could drop the Xbox 360 Pro's price from $300 to $250 around E3 2009 this summer, helping stave off market contraction as the overall economy struggles to recover (Pachter thinks concerns about waning consumer demand are "overblown").
Don't look for official confirmation on any of this, of course. Confirming price drops four to six months out would be intermediary sales suicide.
That said, if Sony does drop the PS3's pricing to $300 and its notable 2009 exclusives, e.g. Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, EyePet, Nobi Nobi Boy, God of War 3, and the one I'm most excited about, Uncharted 2, turn out to be as good as we're hoping, we could be having a very different discussion about console demographics this time next year.

it would help greatly. Thoses exclusives are hot but not system sellers because the world has gone casual......they need to package LBP with the ps3 and a hdmi. I'm telling you a Ps3 w/ lbp for $333 in a catchy commercial would be a surefire hit. I love my 360 and i like my ps3 but this year will be a equal console sharing year for me. Sony, do this commercial at this price. Lets see a competition!!!

storyteller... if they don't drop the price, and soon.. they will tank and become the next dreamcast.. There may be some good games coming out soon... but with the economy... and high price tag... consumers will care more about putting gas in their tank... than paying 500 bucks just to buy a ps3, 1 game, plus tax... just to play one game on the ps3...

I agree with you. That would be a great bundle at that price.

No thanks, I'll stick to my Xbox 360 and Blu-ray player. The only game that would sway me towards a PS3 is MGS, but quite frankly, I like Halo and GoW better.

I don't see how a price cut will help Sony's bottom line since they are already losing a lot of money on each console, but it is good for people looking at getting a PS3. I just got a 360. I picked it over the PS3 because of the price. Apart from LittleBigPlanet, there are no games on the PS3 that interest me that I can't play on the 360. So ultimately price drove my decision, thought I will probably end up getting a PS3 as well eventually.
