Surpassing the $1 billion dollar mark, Guitar Hero III is officially the highest grossing game ever.
Roughly a year after announcing that the Guitar Hero series has surpassed the $1 billion mark, Activision has stated that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has grossed over $1 billion, making it the highest grossing video game ever.
Mike Griffith of Activision has also spoken to the influence of the Guitar Hero series on instrument sales, stating that over two-thirds of non-musicians start playing a real instrument after being exposed to rhythm games.

Now if we can just get gh to realize hey rockband has a good idea let us download the songs from previous versions to the hard drives. Heck go all out for 500 points insert the ps2 disc into an xbox or ps3 to prove u own it and download those too. or just realease a disc with all of the previous songs on it. Sadly i am not personally interested in gh metallica the songs i have played of them just aren't fun to play.

Pretty cool. The relationship between Guitar Hero and a actual instruments is kind of funny. I play guitar myself and I can honestly say that it doesn't help much when playing Guitar Hero. One of my friends can shred on Guitar Hero, but is clueless how to handle a real guitar. Its the other way around too. I'm glad that games like Guitar Hero influences people to pick up an instrument. Also, the GH and RB series is an awesome way to be introduced to music. Hell, I praised the original THPS for introducing people to Bad Religion.

at gigachanger: GH would do that but when harmonix and red octane split, Harmonix had most of the music catalog so in order for us to enjoy the past games we have to wait for them in forms of downloadable content...sad isnt it
and wow just fucking wow

GH3 is okay, I'll give Neversoft that, so I sort of see why it passed the one billion mark. But I sort of doubt World Tour will do so. Why? Because its very bland. I think the slider thing on the guitar is rather annoying, sure its a neat idea, but its annoying at times. Plus, I don't think the song selection is that great.
Also, though maybe graphics and such shouldnt matter, but its as if Neversoft are using the old graphics scheme that Harmonix had when they made the GH instead of starting completely from scratch. To me, thats really cheap. I mean, maybe htis is a bit technical here and doesn't matter, but the strings still don't move, the characters are still boring and seems really gimmicky. Also, the hand animations look horrible too. I mean, a company with thier own motion caption studio, how can they make such crappy animations? I really think tehy need to step that up.
Rock band on the other hand is great. Has a great atmosphere, the characters arent boring and they feel as if they have a real personality. Also, the sets and stages are great too and make you feel as if you're at a real concert. With GH:World Tour, not so much. Plus, RB's song selection is 100times better.
To me, the only thing GH:World tour has on RB are the cameos by real musicians.
Anyway, enough with my rambling.
GHIII will be the last good Guitar Hero.
