TimeSplitters, Haze developer shuts down

FPS developer Free Radical goes belly up.

A report on Kotaku reveals that English video game developer Free Radical Design has officially gone out of business. When employees tried to enter their building, they discovered that they were locked out.

The company, which is based in Nottingham, England, is known for making FPS games, including their popular TimeSplitters trilogy and their most recent next-gen shooter Haze.

The news of the studio shutting down comes after their last game Haze received below average review scores across the board, which maintains a 57% review average on GameRankings.

Free Radical had previously announced that they were working on a fourth installment in their flagship first-person shooter franchise, TimeSplitters 4, but it looks like fans of the series are now out of luck.

Despite the low scores Haze received from some game critics, GamePro's own Tracy Erickson gave it a favorable review (3.5 out of 5 stars), citing the game's gripping campaign as one of its selling points.

No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

THE VERDICT by Patrick Shaw Patrick Shaw's Avatar What a bummer. I'm a huge fan of the TimeSpitters trilogy, which only got better with each sequel, and was looking forward to getting my hands on TimeSplitters 4. Maybe someone will pick up the license from them.

Yeah, TimeSplitters is an awesome series. One of my favorite FPS franchises ever. If someone did pick up the license, I'm sure the humor and general feel will be completely changed. I had no idea that TS 4 was even being considered.
Oh yeah, I think back in the day I won a TimeSplitters calendar from you guys.

whoa! That sucks. I just checked their website and it is still up with no news of this. That's terrible! I guess it will be a while longer before we actually see Timesplitters 4 now :(. It's sad to see people losing their jobs, especially this time of year

This is all stupid, stupid Haze's fault. I was looking forward to Timesplitters 4, dammit!
