"Daniel Petric shot his parents -- killing his mother -- because they wouldn't allow him to play the violent video game Halo 3, prosecutors told a judge at the boy's murder trial Monday...
"Daniel's lawyer, James Kersey, gave a short opening statement. He said his client had been under great stress at the time of the shooting because of a snowboarding accident that resulted in a severe staph infection. It left Daniel with such severe spinal damage that the slightest injury could leave him paralyzed.
"Daniel was homebound for a year with nothing to do but watch television and play video games, Kersey said. It was during that time that he became fascinated with the Halo series and would play them for hours at friends' houses. His father forbade the games, saying that were too violent and sexually explicit."
This kind of thing disgusts me and I do not care how much the guy regrets what he did, I hope he goes to the "special" hell. I honestly don't care about his stressful life, and how upset he was over a snowboarding accident that gave him a staph infection. This is one of the worst things someone can do, to kill their own parent or parents. He even asked them to close their eyes because he had a "surprise".

Great... because of this friggin idiot I'm sure the geezers in Congress are going to bring up the whole video games are evil routine. They'll blame the video games even though a gun killed his parents not the video game. Until I hear that people are starting to beat people to death with game consoles leave video games out of it. There were messed up people out there way before video games came along. Did Jack the Ripper play GTA, and did HItler play Doom? No. Then start blaming stupid people instead of video games. Because if Halo made this kid kill his parents then I'm sure were all screwed because we have more then a million soon to be killers out there who bought the game also.

I agree with Klawson13, this is exactly what they'll do. Blame the videogame itself instead of the disturbed person who did it. If that was the case, than why hasn't all the teenagers or young kids killing they're parents when they ban them from playing a violent video game. He already had his demons and they would have surfaced sooner or later, he didn't need any video game to bring them out. I hope that prick burns alive.

I hope Halo or any other game doesn't get the blame for this. As far as FPS games go Halo is one of the least violent you never kill anthor person it's always an alien with green or purple blood and even online it doesn't have much blood. This is the work of a very sick kid and no matter if he was playing violent games or watching violent TV this seems like it was bound to happen with this mentally disturbed kid. I've played every Halo since it came out and I would never even think of doing what this guy has done. I hope the media doesn't blame millions of fans for the actions of one.

Its easy to blame Halo because it can't be cross examined. Its more than obvious that kid had problems and being in a over zelous religious home might have sparked that kids fuse. Its easier to blame someone else or something else than admitt this kid had some real mental issues.

I read this article earlier today and even now hours later it still makes me sick to my stomach to think about it. There is absolutely NOTHING that is right about this at all. I've had a lot of stress in my life at times. I've been frustrated. I've been kicked when I'm already down. I have never even so much as thought about doing something like this because of it. And to have them close their eyes so he could give them a surprise is just sick. This kid is in serious need of mental help.
Furthermore I really hope this doesn't cast a bad light on video games, because while some crimes are borderline on whether or not they are related to video games this one was most obviously not. This time I can't even blame bad parenting because I am sure that they never instructed him to get revenge in such a fashion.

The Parents Actions "taking away things" was obviously far to little far to late" the kid was/is obviously troubled and they should have taken action long ago, or were they fucked up abusive useless parents to start with?
