God of War to Dante's Inferno: Ranking the 9 VGA trailers

We got new looks at God of War III, Watchmen, Terminator: Salvation, Dante's Inferno, Uncharted 2, GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned, Mafia II, Fight Night Round 4 and Brutal Legend. Which ones rocked, and which ones sucked?
With plenty of new trailers premiering for anticipated titles, the Spike Video Game Awards seemed more like E3 than the Emmys. We've ranked all nine trailer that debuted last night, from worst to best. Where did your most-anticipated game rank?
9- Uncharted 2: Among Theives
Whether the events of this trailer precede or follow the original teaser from last week is irrelevant. What is undeniable is that it's not nearly as good. The first one provided a setting and a bit of a story. This one just features a meaningless action sequence. So he's bloody and hanging off a cliff? BFD, it's not like he's going to die. Give us gameplay or give us death.
8- Mafia II
If you just can't get enough of playing as a law-breaking Mafioso in games like Grand Theft Auto and The Godfather, then you can sink your teeth into the sequel to Mafia II. Judging from this trailer, Mafia II continues its emphasis on story over action. Too bad they don't show more of the game outside some brief cinematics.
7- Terminator: Salvation
We absolutely loved the first Terminator: Salvation movie trailer that accompanied The Dark Knight, and it's no surprise that the game follows the exact same formula. Between the gritty, static-filled visuals and the post-apocalyptic take on the Terminator theme, this feels a bit too much like a video we've all seen six months ago. The new Terminator model looks awesome, and we'd love to find out more about the Gears-style gameplay--why not make those parts the focus, instead of feature film emulation?
6- Brutal Legend
With the massive popularity of games like Rock Band/Guitar Hero and Adult Swim's cartoon Metalocalypse, a video game spoofing Heavy Metal culture seems like a no brainer. This new Brutal Legend video looks promising as it features Jack Black in full force as a wise-cracking roadie turned hero who must battle demons.
5- Dante's Inferno
A video game inspired by Dante Alighieri's epic poem The Inferno may not seem like a good idea at first, but if this game has players fighting their way through the various stages of Hell as the trailer implies, we're there. Most of the trailer is concept art, but we're still intrigued by the game's premise and the showdown at the end of the video where a rather emaciated creature gets a cross gored into its skull. Now that's literature.
4- Watchmen: The End is Nigh
As a downloadable brawler, expectations aren't through the roof for Watchmen: The End is Nigh. Perhaps that's why the game's debut trailer was so surprising. It looks gorgeous, and more importantly, brutally violent. Sure, we miss Dr. Manhattan and The Comedian, but it looks like Rorschach and Nite Owl will be plenty kickass on their own.
3- GTA IV: The Lost and Damned
How is it that a trailer for downloadable content outshone almost everything else on display at the VGAs? It's simple-- Rockstar can't help but produce utterly amazing trailers whether it be for serious fare like GTA IV or more light-hearted stuff like Bully . It also doesn't hurt that GTA IV: The Lost and Damned looks like it'll be a game unto itself. It's already full of amazing cutscenes and great action. Just one question--can we still jack cars? Because riding motorcycles in GTA sucks ass.
2- Fight Night Round 4
You cannot top the pageantry and spectacle of a heavyweight championship bout. When you put together a dream match feature the two greatest boxers of all time, it's impossible to not get hyped to the nth degree. Muhammad Ali versus Mike Tyson is the match we've wanted to play ever since we notched our first KO in Punch-Out, and now we're gonna get it, and this trailer has only bolstered our enthusiasm.
1- God of War III
In this new God of War III trailer, we get our first glimpse at actual gameplay from the eagerly anticipated end of the trilogy (the first teaser only showed pre-rendered footage). The video is over far too quickly, but we do get to see Kratos brandishing a new weapon, dual snarling animal heads that he cocks as if he were reloading them. Graphics in GoWIII don't look drastically superior to the last game in the series, but it's still a bit too early to say what the final product will look like.

Tyson vs. Ali is sure to be fun, but it'll be even better if Holyfield is in the game.

No matter what, Tyson is a peice of boxing history and more then deserves to be in this game. He went his first 37 pro fights with out a loss and only four went to a decision. He is 50 -6 right now and that is pretty damn good no matter how you look at it.

Good list. I can't wait for Fight Night and GoWIII
Oh and by the way, crotch rockets were fun as hell in Vice City and San Andreas, but definitely not in GTA IV

I am so happy Mike Tyson is in Fight Night. He had one bad moment (well terrible) but that should not displace him from boxing history. He is one of the greatest, LIKE IT OR NOT!

Say what you want about Mike Tyson but the man was a BEAST in his prime. Damn shame that he fell into the disgrace he is now. Anyways, I love the FN series, it takes some skill , not just some random punch sequence and FN4 is a difinite buy for me when it comes out.
