Halo 3 tops Xbox Live as most-played game...again

When Gears of War 2 was released a few weeks back, it claimed the top spot on Xbox Live. This was to be expected, as the first Gears of War always placed high up on the list. However, after one week, Master Chief has already curb stomped Marcus Fenix down to second place.

While nobody can argue against Halo 3's popularity, it still blows my mind, and I'm sure other people feel the same way. As mentioned, Gears 2 is still holding on to second place, which is nothing to shake a stick at. Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto IV complete the top five.
Master Chief, you never fail to surprise me.

No surprise here considering it took forever to join a match. now with the new patch maybe things will get back to normal.

I agree....the long wait time to play GOW2 online was horrific!!! Maybe now since it's improved somewhat it can claim the top spot again.

In my opinion, I don't see how Halo 3 can be more popular than Gears of War 2. Halo 3 is a very well done FPS game but it has that legacy FPS feel. No cover, jump to help avoid explosions and headshots feeling. The weapons are well balanced but, in essence, it is like the Doom and Wolfenstein series.
Gears of War 2 has the cover system that makes the game a bit more strategic. You can't barge in (usually) letting your person take hits to get to the person to blow them away. You will stagger (usually) on your way to your target unlike Halo 3. The weapons are interesting and distinctive. The grenades are better as they are more versatile. You have to work as a team more in the Gears series than you do in the Halo series.
I love both series but I prefer Gears when it comes to online play. It offers me more in terms of gameplay and satisfaction. I think this is a holdover from the Xbox days when the only shooter on the console was Halo. There was nothing to compare it to so everyone played it and got good at it. We liked it...but now there are more choices. We are not creatures of change however.

Well I finally got a 360 and have been playing Halo 3 non stop on Live.

WOW, im surprised. I didnt expect to see Halo 3 to be the top after all that talk of Gears of War 2. My opinion is I HATE halo. All the jumping mad high, the base weapon sucks and everyone just shots then beats! I expected GOW2 to DEFINITELY blow out Halo in online play. Disapointed ):
