Guerilla Games QA developer says no pre-installs of any kind will be required when players start up Killzone 2 for the first time.
Guerrilla games QA developer Seb Downie told forum members at PlayStation.com on Monday that upcoming PS3 exclusive Killzone 2 will not require a pre-installation.
In fact, there won't even be an option to pre-install, because Killzone 2 won't offer it.
"We are not planning to do any install... No install. Optional or otherwise," Downie said during a Q&A with forum members.
The move goes against the current practice on the PS3 of requiring or offering players the option to pre-install data from a game's Blu-ray. Theoretically, the practice is supposed to reduce in-game load times, although it comes at the expense of making the player wait several minutes before they can begin playing a title. The process also eats up considerable space on the console's hard drive.
Downie gave no indication that Guerrilla Games had reduced load times, long a necessary evil in the disc-based era, using some other method.
Earlier this month, when Microsoft rolled out its dashboard update, the New Xbox Experience, it also introduced this option to owners of that console as well.
