Sony was forced to respond to more swirling PlayStation 3 price cut rumors Monday and again denied a cut would take place anytime soon.
Another month, another PlayStation 3 price cut rumor, and once again Sony was forced to come out and deny a reduction would take place anytime soon.
The latest rumor hinted that Sony would be making the PS3 "more competitive" in March 2009, which some took to mean a price cut would take place to make the console more comparatively priced with the Xbox 360.
"There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 09, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumor or speculation," said a Sony statement issued to Edge.
The rumor was given life over the weekend, when online mag D+Pad reported that an anonymous Sony rep said the company would cut the price in March to mark the end of Sony's fiscal year.

Of course they would deny it... I mean admitting it would kill off sales until March.

Either that or they can't cut the price because they're already losing way too much money.

I don't think Sony should cut the price of the PS3 until it's actually realistic for them to do so. They're already losing money on the thing, why would they cut the price again just to lose even more money and satisfy people who whine and complain about the price.
When the PS2 was at the stage where the PS3 is now, it was still up around $300-400, so I think for $400, people are getting a real bargain with the PS3. I would gladly pay the extra $150 for a PS3 over the Wii any day!! The problem with some people today is they want everything for nothing, and this is probably the attitude some people have with the PS3!? For those people, cutting edge technology comes at a price, there's a reason why the Wii is only $250 and AAA games are far and few between for it!!

I was thinking the same thing, but Sony thinks they're gods gift to gaming and think people are gonna buy a Playstation just because of the name. That might work with fanboys but looking at the sales for all three consoles you'd think they would get off of their PS2 high horse by now and see that's not going to cut it with the average gamer.

Sony is in big trouble , first they lose almost all of their exclusives , then they announce a 55% less expectancy in sales though out the holidays, they keep losing 3rd party support, not only are they in last place when it comes to sales but they 're WAY behind. Now no price cut, i tell you why, first... they can't afford a price cut because they were already losing money at 6 hundred, second, they are now in a position were since they didn't sell as much as they hoped , and didn't get the exclusive games they thought they would, they can't cut the price because even if after a price cut , if they were to sell millions, they still wouldn't be able to make up for it by selling games because the install base is crappy and ps3 owners aren't buying a lot of games for it. . third, no price cut because their projected sales from the beginning were based on selling the ps3 at 6 hundred and even that was pushing it. the ps3 was expected by Sony to dominate the market, which it did not. Sony is hanging on with pride now. Ill tell you something else if Sony doesn't somehow clime out of the gutter this holiday.. im predicting a discontinuation of the ps3 by summertime next year. Don't forget the psp is being dominated by the DS and the psp also has a crappy install base. I won't be suprised if sony bails out of the gaming market all together.

This will probably hurt their sales this holliday season... but they allready lose money on each system... so if they drop the price the sales will go up AND they'll just lose more money per system sold. LOSE LOSE situation.
