Xbox 360 gets fewer Netflix movies on NXE launch

Hundreds of Netflix movies have been 'temporarily' removed on Xbox 360 due to licensing issues, the online rental service confirmed.

Xbox 360 gets fewer Netflix movies on NXE launch

Launching with fewer movies than anticipated is not a good thing

"Titles regularly come in and out of license and there is a natural ebb and flow to what we have on license at any given point in time," a Netflix representative told us on Teusday, after Microsoft deferred comment. "In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console. Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly."

Netflix did not say if or when the "hundreds" of Columbia Pictures movies would return, or if the issue is related to the studio being Sony-owned. Before any 360 fans cry foul against the PS3 maker, it should be known that Sony Picture Entertainment movies can still be streamed to Xbox 360.

Yeah, this sucked to hear. Fortunately, out of 140 movies on my instant-play queue, only 9 were Sony-pwned. The HD almost makes up for it, but I think other Netflix boxes will have that soon. Sucks I can't stream Beverly Hills Ninja, though...

.......not that big a deal. of the 173 movies in my queue, only 12 are Sony-owned. I'm loving the Netflix feature on the 360.

I still haven't gotten the update cause of work. I have a question for those that have. Are new titles available to stream through Xbox? I know the Netflix PC instant option doesn't have many new titles availble to stream.

You can bet Microsoft will withhold blu-ray driver support from future windows versions if sony doesn't relent. I think Sony has more to loose in this battle then Microsoft. I would expect the Sony library to be available soon, probably just a Jr. Sony guy holding it up.

I find it funny that NXE came out today and Gamepro has no main article about it until they find something negative to say. If this were Sony Home they would have had an official countdown. Guess we already knew where Gamepro stands...firmly on Sony's knutsack. Anyway, downloaded NXE this morning and it's awesome! My PS3 will be collecting even more dust..probably until God of War...IF it ever comes out.

My Netflix list has been full at 500 movies for at least 3 years and 100 are instant play I didn't check to see what ones are Sony.
