Far from a "port plus" or a half-hearted update effort, the Play it on Wii GameCube remakes coming soon to the Wii might actually be more in depth than they first appeared.

The upcoming "Play it on Wii" GameCube remakes could be more than just updated ports, if one confirmed title in the series is any indication.

According to a translated report out of weekly Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, one of the first titles, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (original review here), received completely new stages, enemies and gimmicks found throughout the stages.

The controls are also changing to reflect the times. While the original used a bongo accessory, the Wii version is controlled with the Wiimote and nunchuck. Limited motion controls also come into play, the article read.

There was also a brief mention of the Pikmin Play it on Wii update. Controls have changed to an IR pointer scheme, but there was little else on additional updates, levels or changes that Nintendo may have made to the popular GameCube title.

Donkey Kong Play it on Wii arrives on December 11th. Pikmin arrives December 25.

As much as I love my wii, I just bought a PS3 and have been playing that more. My girlfriend now has the wii. It seems sort of lazy and actually makes me kind of angry that Nintendo is just porting gamecube games with new controls, rather then making new wii versions.

Didn't they say they wanted to port the GC version of Mario Tennis to Wii also? WTF? Why can't they just make a new one... better graphics, online support, and obviously new controls. Are they going to map the buttons to motion controls, or will it be more like Wii Sports Tennis? And Tennis would be a perfect game to use Wii Motion Plus! The way they made Mario Sluggers on Wii, maybe we're better off with ports, or just buying the GC games. I didn't buy a Wii to play GC games, just like I didn't buy a PS3 to play PS2 games.

But why waste all that time,money, and resources to actually WORK on something new, when people are dumb enough to flock to the port in droves? I am sorry to say this, but the Wii is bad for gaming. There is ZERO quality control on games and it is about attachment rates ONLY. Think about this, there are 36 million Wiis in homes. If they can sell a copy of this remake to only 5 percent of Wii owners, then they have sold 1,800,000 copies. That is 1,800,000 X $50 = $90,000,000. I hate to say it, but Nintendo don't give a shit about what you, me or anyone else thinks. If you can drag Reggie from his mistress's bedroom or yacht long enough to talk to him about it, let us know. Cause otherwise, he don't give a f*ck. By the way, hope I did the math right, but you get the point nonetheless.

The only games I'm remotely interested in being remade for the Wii are Metroid Prime 1 and 2 and Pikmin 2.. the first Pikmin is a waste of time, not sure why they're redoing that one, it's way too short and lacks the 2 player co-op mode.

I'm exited for the Metroid Prime 1 and 2 release on the wii, my 2 favorite games of all time on 1 disk I believe. Nintendo didn't sell a lot of gamecubes, so hopefully a lot more people will be able to play the original Metroid Primes. For those who say that they didn't buy a wii to play gamecube games, then don't buy these games and buy regular Wii games. Nintendo is a much bigger company now, with a lot more money for development, they can do whatever they want. Can you imagine not doing certain things because of of what a couple of idiots might think?

I see the same two Nintendo haters are spending their time focused on Wii.. Too bad the PS3 doesnt offer you fanboys enough to keep you from having to deal with things you hate. Very telling that Sony fans want to cry more than they want to game. Why arent you out playing LBP,R2? Oh thats right, those games are complete crap. Better to spend your time focused on Wii

Whatever Captain Sony... what would you have said if MS decided to not bother making XBox360 games, and instead focused on porting XBox games to the 360? Or, instead of making God of War 3, they re-released GoW1 on PS3. It is NOT OK for ANY system to do this... it just so happens that Nintendo is doing it, hence, the Nintendo hate.
