Bungie: Halo 3 Recon is '3-5 hours, not a $60 game'

Comments direct from the developer shed light on next year's stand-alone Halo 3 expansion.
Is Halo 3: Recon an expansion or stand-alone game? According to Bungie, quoted in the December issue of Game Informer, it's both.
Bungie lead designer Paul Bertone described Recon as "a three to five-hour expansion pack" to the magazine, transcribed by Bungie.org. But unlike initial reports, it seems the game will in fact be priced to move. "We do not view this as a $60 title," said Bungie cinematic director Joe Straten.
Unfortunately, Game Informer doesn't contain any screenshots, reports Bungie.org, "but there's quite a bit of concept art, and there's a lot of description of how the game is going to work."
Halo 3: Recon is planned for release on Xbox 360 between July and September 2009.

Bungie has no control over pricing, Microsoft does. And Microsoft probably realizes that anything with the "Halo" name on it will sell for $60, no matter how much content is actually in it. Recon will probably cost just as much, standalone expansion or not.

I don't see this going to $60. Halo is a tried-and-true product, but I'm placing a lot of emphasis on the "tried" part. I think plenty of people are getting a little weary of it. There's got to be something to goose them into buying this, and a price cut would do it. Charging $60 for a three to five hour game will make a lot of customers very angry when they realize how long the game is. Remember, Microsoft has Halo Wars coming out, and I wouldn't be surprised if they try and milk the series beyond these two games.
I see this topping out at $40, maybe. Anything above that, Microsoft's asking for trouble.

CoD4 was about that long too but it was a great game too. I'm hoping more around $30, I think that's a good price.

I don't see any game at $60 being reasonable. With that said. keep two things in mind here when considering what the price tag will be. One Microsoft and two, money.
