Microsoft today announced that Epic's latest sci-fi shooter sold more than 2 million in its opening weekend.

Surprise! Gears of War 2 did very well in its first three days at retail, thank you. But not as good as Halo 3, which sold well above 2 million in the first 24 hours last September.

Nevertheless, more than 1.5 million logged into Gears of War 2 on Xbox Live during the weekend, says Microsoft, helping to set a new record for concurrent Live players, slow matchmaking be damned.

i was one of those 2 million...the game is amazing..slow matchmaking happened in the first 2 days w/c one really annoying but now its ok

Probably fair to assume there will be a 3rd installment hahahaha, but not before they release that multiplatform horror survival game :) Congrats to Gears success!

I was one of those 2 millions that bought and one of those 1.5 million that logged on.. Great game really glad I bought it.. 5 stars all the way..

I know this one will never be a platinum hit, because the first one is still full price and that one's never going on sale
