Friend Code-protected voice chat will be fully operational by the launch of Animal Crossing: City Folk
Let's voice chat like it's 2006!
When Animal Crossing: City Folk launches for the Wii on November 16, the ballyhooed voice chat feature, provided by the Wii Speak microphone accessory, will be fully operational.
The Friend Code-protected voice chat feature works with Animal Crossing as an in-game service. It will also be available as an independent chat channel, that will be accessible through the Wii's main menu. Called the Wii Speak Channel, the service will be free to those who purchase the Animal Crossing/Wii Speak bundle, as well as to those who purchase the microphone separately.
The Wii Speak accessory is going to be sold separately for $29.99, or in the aforementioned Animal Crossing bundle for $69.99. The Wii Speak accessory comes with a code that allows users to download the voice chat Channel for no additional charge.
The Wii Speak Channel will be available via the Wii Shop Channel in December, according to a Nintendo.
Nintendo is promising worldwide chat functionality with the Wii Speak Channel, so long as you get those Friend Codes buttoned up beforehand.

Wow, now we can hear all the babies crying and the senior citizens pooping their pants. Nah, just kidding... but I don't have many friends on Wii online, so I won't be getting it. For all you skeptics, the PS Eye has a microphone similar to this, and it works allright... it's no headset, but it does the job.

Why do you still bother? Everytime they announce something no matter what you cry.. Did you cry this much when Sony decided after the PS3 launch to include rumble and charge consumers another 60.00 for it? Doubt it. But let Nintendo improve what they offer and you alwayss comment why wasnt it there at launch

Nintendo could have done way better. I mean they are having some good games, but barely anything on the 360 and PS3 gets to the wii.
You wanna know why?
BECAUSE THE WII CAN'T HANDLE IT!!
Has anyone ever denied that? No. Could Nintendo have done better? Of course, but they chose not to and they said that from the start. They aren't competing on the graphics level and said so from the beginning. They focused on actual innovation instead of just making things look prettier and keeping everything else the same. Graphics are not that important. If they were the PS3 wouldn't be floundering in third place, now would it? And to say you don't like something before you have used it or before it has even come out is just plain idiocy. Smarten up, jackass.
Friends codes may be annoying, but not everyone feels the need to sewar at, belittle, and insult complete strangers from the safety of their livingroom. Friends codes helps ensure that you don't come across immature assholes like yourself who would no doubt ruin the fun in playing online.

It's probably not an omnidirectional mic. And there is probably a range in which it works. They wouldn't release something that wouldn't work.
