Bungie: Halo 'single-handedly' made Xbox

In an interview published Thursday, Bungie's Brian Jarrard got candid on what Halo means to Xbox.
"Nobody at Bungie had any idea how big the original Halo or Master Chief would be to the Xbox or even the game and entertainment industries as a whole," the community manager told GamePlayer. "Bungie knew that Halo was a fun game... but had no idea it would single-handedly make or break Microsofts entry into the game console market.
"Could you imagine the Xbox or Xbox 360 without Bungie's Halo?," Jarrard concluded.
Microsoft has sold an estimated 22 million copies of Halo since the the first game launched in 2001, making it one of the most dominate modern franchises in video game history and pivotal in the success of Microsoft's foray into gaming.
Bungie's next game is a stand-alone expansion to Halo 3 called Halo 3: Recon.

Halo was big,no doubt about that, but Xbox had way better games than Halo. It does go down in history for being the best launch game for the Xbox though.

Halo is a big part of the Xbox, but I don't think it necessarily MADE Xbox. Titles like Gears of War, Fable, and others helped too.

Its hard to tell where the XBOX would be if not for Halo. There were several great games but if not for Halo it is possible the console might not have lasted.

Gears didn't come out until 360 and fable came out late in the old x-box life cycle so Bungie is right their game did make the x-box. Later games like Ninja Gaiden and Fable just helped the x-box make a better name for itself and show it wasn't just a one trick Halo pony. But I would agree with you that Gears did help make the 360 I just love that game, I've must've beaten it like 15 times already and I still play it.

Well I agree that the Halo franchise pretty much carried Xbox on their shoulders, but Xbox 360 has seen Gears surpass it. Plus there is a much better variety of quality games on 360.

Halo helped the Xbox compete against the PS2, but the series is what helped the 360 become so dominant. I'm not saying Halo is the only reason why the 360 is popular, but it did help. I know a few friends who bought a 360 just because of Halo 3 (I'll never understand why).
