Four years after its release, the Nintendo DS has become the second best-selling Nintendo handheld, behind the original Game Boy.
Game Boy Advance drops to third on the all time best-selling Nintendo handheld list
During the April to September half, total Nintendo DS shipments surpassed 84 million units, besting the 81 million mark set by the Game Boy Advance. The feat makes the DS the second best-selling Nintendo handheld of all time, behind combined Game Boy and Game Boy Color sales, which sold 119 million units worldwide.
In related news, sales of the Wii and DS fell 40 percent in Japan but rose in the U.S. and Europe during the same period, Nintendo said Thursday. The company reduced its profit forecasts for the next quarter blaming a strong yen.

Not suprsised it oustold it... but I'm actually surprised it took this long... considering the DS has been the best selling system since it was released.

Good system I own one myself but I also own a psp and I think that is a better system. Too bad the Nintendo name alone is enough to kill any handheld competition even one made by Sony. Now if Nintendo made a DS with mp3 and and alot better graphics (not the DS-i) then they would strike gold with that.

I also own a DS & PSP and would agree PSP is the better system . . . if it had more games. I believe Nintendo kills their competition with their games, not their name.

The GBA wasn't out for that long, only 3 years or so, thank god. I guess Nintendo got word that the PSP was coming out, and quickly put what they were planing for the future together. I guess that's why the original DS looks bulky like a prototype.

There's nothing wrong with the graphics on the DS. The graphics are great. Not every game needs to be 3D, and thankfully most DS games are 2D; just the way I like them :)

I'm not bashing the DS I think some of the games on it are great. I play Mario Kart,New Super Mario Bros, and both Castlevania games all the time but even the most hardcore fanboy has to admit the graphics with the acception of a few titles are horrible. Play KingKong (which I own) and I dare you to say the DS has good graphics.
