Survey says: 11% of games are left unopened

You'd think after plopping down $50-60 on a game, gamers would rush to their consoles.
Unopened video games make me sad
While that maybe true for most, a new study by the NPD group (via Gamasutra) found that at least one of every 10 purchased games still has shrink wrap on it. The survey polled 562 gamers, all of which had purchased games at retail in the past six months, and also found the average video game collection contains an impressive 48 games.
Who the crap is leaving games in shrink wrap? At least open the thing to appreciate that new games smell, like I did with Professor Layton, before never placing it into my DS cartridge slot (I still plan to though, someday, just you watch!)

Yeah, I'm guilty of this. Well, almost. I always take the shrink wrap off of it (I thought I was the only one to enjoy that new game/cd/dvd smell). I still haven't finished a bunch of my games.. and some, I've barely scratched the surface.
I'm trying to cut-back my release date purchases, and just finish the games I've got, but I've still got some major catching up to do.
Still, I'd rather have the problem of deciding which great game I'll get next rather than not have any good ones to play.

damn i have exactly 11 games that i didnt play yet.....damn I work too hard....i just started bioshock on 360 and i got it last christmas....wow i'm impressed gamepro

I have a few games that are still in their Shrink Wrap. Chrono Cross and DMC 3 are my oldest purchases that have not been opened yet.

i have about 10 games for each of my 3 systems (Wii, PS2, N64) and whenever i get a new one i pretty much focus on nothing but that game for the next few weeks

If I get together the money to buy a game,especially at full price,you better believe I'm opening that game right away. I got kids to feed so I don't waste one dollar. Besides,I love video games way too much to let one sit in its plastic.

I still have Dreamcast games in wrappers! I have Dead space still wrapped, waiting to finish alittle more of SR2 and Mercenary 2. I never buy games at full price if I can help it.

The average collection is 48... mine's 1884. And all but one of mine are opened.

I dont buy games unless I really want to play them. I sold my 360, but I only had like ten games for it before i did. But I beat them all. I've beaten all the PS3 games i have. When I was younger I never beat games, but Im in college, and if I spend that much money on it, Im gonna finish it.
