Nintendo to double holiday Wii shipments

After more than two years of shortages, Nintendo hopes a monthly supply of almost 4 million Wiis will meet demand this Christmas.
The company says it's now manufacturing 2.4 million Wii units a month worldwide, compared to 1.6 million a month last year. "We've made a 33 percent increase," Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime told the LA Times in an interview published today. "We're bringing 50 percent more supply this holiday... producing an unprecedented level of hardware to try to meet demand."
Earlier this month, Fils-Aime blamed ongoing shortages on record demand, when speaking at the company's fall media event. "We are selling hardware at rates that no system has ever experienced," he said.
Since launching in 2006, Wii has sold an estimated 34 million units worldwide, easily making it the most popular console this generation. (See also: The 28 Best Wii Games)

For all those who've been waiting forever to get a Wii... good luck this holiday season. Who would've thought that 2 year later they'd still be that hard to find on store shelves. Pretty long fad if you ask me.

It is great to see more people play games than ever before through the Wii. I just hope they make more games like zelda and mario .
Also it is surprising that Nintendo does not make more Wii consoles to meet the demand at the holidays.

Not really! The Wii has a lot of good games available and many coming in the future. Consider Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4, Conduit, MadWorld, Tales of Symphonia, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Mario Kart Wii w/ online play, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Call of Duty 5 (which actually looks better for the Wii than the 360 and PS3 versions), SVR 2009, etc. The list goes on and will go on until the next Wii arrives.

Yeah I'm glad someone else caught that! It looks to me like they are playing the manufacturing cautiously, or on purpose keeping the shortgage alive!

I'll just explain it quickly. Right now they are manufacturing 2.4 million Wii units a month, and that's 33% more than the 1.6 million a month last year. Now they are going to increase it by 50% what they produce a month now, which is 2.4 million and that's going to equal to almost 2 times as much Wiis as they were producing per month last holiday season. In other words last Holiday season they were popping out 1.6 million Wiis per month, and this Holiday season it's going to be almost double that. Most humans have really low reading comprehension. It's like they have too much on their minds.
