Far Cry 2 upsetting widescreen connoisseurs

Like BioShock before it, Far Cry 2 uses simulated widescreen by cropping the standard 4:3 aspect ratio, leaving 16:9 enthusiast at their wit's end.

Far Cry 2 upsets widescreen connoisseurs

4:3 cropped equals 16:9 apparently (click for more screens)

The visual shortcut was discovered and documented Wednesday by the Widescreen Gaming Forum, upset over Ubisoft's decision to pull a BioShock and reduce the viewable area of Far Cry 2. One gamer on the forum alleges that the cropping makes driving difficult.

In 2007, 2K Games released BioShock in cropped 4:3 format to feign the 16:9 aspect ratio. The trickery was later fixed via a downloadable patch.

Far Cry 2 is available now and rated mature. Despite its circumcised widescreen, GamePro gave the first-person shooter a five-star rating, our highest recommendation.

Still got a 4:3 TV... but that sucks! Circumcised widescreen LMAO. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Lazy devs... what can you do?

Been playing this game for a day now and I haven't noticed anything. Looks great to me. I've got a 55 inch HD T.V. and I'm not complaining.
