LucasArts unveils Star Wars: The Old Republic

For the horde?

Star Wars and World of Warcraft fans, rejoice. You're two favorite things are about to collide.

LucasArts and BioWare today announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, the spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with an MMO twist and planned for release on PC.

But unlike other MMOs, the tag-team publishers promised an extra helping of story in The Old Republic, in addition to the combat, exploration, and character progression that genre fans have come to expect.

"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the most critically acclaimed Star Wars game in LucasArts' history, and a preeminent example of our company's storytelling heritage," said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts, in a statement. "For a long time, we've wanted to return to the franchise in a grand way, and we felt that the best setting for it was an online world that would allow millions of people to participate in the experience together."

Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or other classic Star Wars classes, says LucasArts, and define their own path as Dark Side synthesizers or Force-loving rebels. As expected, players can also team up with friends online for power in numbers.

A release date was not announced.

oy, dude, i prefer mac as well but you are making yourself look like an idiot with the whole (nsert annoying fanboy/nerd/parent basement dweller voice here) "Man, PC sucks, Macs a koolers and rock, it PWNS all," Just please stop now.

I will say that it will most likely come out on MAC since WOW and others did as well. You know, unless it is older, just do what I did and set up boot camp with a windows partition on your Mac and problem solved.

One last word, its people like you that make MAC users look bad so once again, for the love of god, just stop!

(PS, as I point out to friends, Macs are PC, afterall, PC only stands for PERSONAL COMPUTER whi a MAC is, so dont throw that out there either please!!!)

It's too bad Bioware didn't develop Star Wars Galaxies.. I'd much rather play the game during the time period of the movies rather than the Old Republic time period. After the SWG fiasco with the new game enhancements, I could care less about a new Star Wars mmo, or any mmo in general. Just not worth the time and money.

KOTOR I & II are awesome. Bioware is awesome. Star Wars is awesome. Basically, I'm excited!

What's a Fanboy? Half fan, half boy? I'll have to come up from my basement to find the answer I guess.

Screw the computers, it was the console sales that made this franchise famous. Why has BioWare forsaken it's loyal console gamers? Computer gaming is not the way to go. BioWare you stand to make a whole lot less AND you will lose more due to piracy. The game will be plagued by a-hole cheaters and hackers, which would happen on consoles as well but not as much. Idk, I just think it's a better choice to stick with the Xbox family.

Not cool BioWare, not cool dude.
