The gaming world is a buzz this morning with news from Euro Gamer, stating that Sony has begun a worldwide recall of LittleBigPlanet (set to release next Tuesday) for containing at least two references to holy Islamic text.

"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Quran," Sony said in statement today. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this, and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused."

The sensitive phrases are allegedly in the first 30 seconds of the background music to the Swinging Safari level. Sony says they will begin shipping the revised game in North America the week of October 27.

This isn't the first time a game has been recalled for referencing the Quran. In 2003, Kakuto Chojin for Xbox was pulled from retail for containing holy Islamic text. It was later re-released with the offending content removed.

So....you can't quote the Quran in a video game?

What about a movie or a book?

Or what about Christians...no one ever worries about pissing off Christians.

Big deal, this isn't the first time a ps3 game has been delayed haha . Besides theres other great games coming out on the 21st so no big deal.

Just an advance word of warning, folks -- please don't make any rude comments about anyone's religion. Let's keep this civil! Folks who can't be civil will be nuked by the GamePro Orbital Weapons Platform.

Yes, but in general Christians will just protest outside sony headquarters, likely while carrying their psp in their pocket to play during breaks in protesting. And while they are on the same break from protesting they may even pickup a blu-ray disk, since they are already outside the sony store. why not save gas.

Not a fair comparison, UltimateAlien. Of course people are concerned about antagonizing Christians (you wouldn't see so much pandering to them if that weren't the case). Using passages from the Quran for blatantly commercial purposes and for something as trivial as a game is something they have a right to be offended about. Doesn't mean you or I have to agree with it or that Sony HAS TO recall it, but I think it would be a sensible move by Sony as I'm sure that wasn't their intent. Just one of those cultural misunderstandings that pop up in a global marketplace.

It's also worth noting that the Church of England DID protest the use of that church in London modeled in Resistance, so it's not just one religion that can take offense.

You know, I don't have any desire to make any rude comment...but for crying out loud even Gamepro's website is so PC that you exercise freedom of speech? Political correctness is why this country is falling apart right now...
