Far Cry 2 the first game featured in PlayStation Home

Ubisoft beat its chest today to announce that Far Cry 2 is the first third-party game to be featured in the upcoming closed beta of Home.

The Far Cry 2 space "will continue to grow and evolve alongside PlayStation Home," Ubisoft promised, aiming to create a "living, growing platform for both the Far Cry and PlayStation communities." No specifics were offered, however, on how that might be accomplished, or when the public version of Home would launch.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Home is described as a "3D social gaming community that allows PS3 users to meet, chat, plan, and launch into games together." Gamers are encouraged to create their own virtual doppelganger, decorate their in-Home apartment, play mini-games like pool and whatnot, shop for virtual clothing, watch videos with others, and attend virtual events.

The virtual community, often compared to the once popular Second Life PC community and originally planned for release on PS3 in 2007, has been subject to multiple delays. In July, PlayStation presidente Jack Tretton told gamers, "Your patience will be more than rewarded."

Far Cry 2 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on October 21 and carries a mature rating.

This is some of the crap that really bugs me with Sony. Nothing seems to be universal with the PS3 platform. Let me try to explain before PS3 fanboys begin to cry.

Trophies? Trophy support, does anyone know if will support trophies? Does anyone know if will get an update adding trophies?

Home support?? "sweet sassy molassy, did anyone notice the **Home logo on BioShock for the PS3? HOME SUPPORT CONFIRMED FOR BIOSHOCK PS3!!!! Exactly how is this going to work with future games and Home? Basically I mean what types of features or whatever is gained when buying a title that supports Home? Is the main bonus for a Home supported game the ability to launch a game with a party directly from Home?

Moving on, we also have the ability to play custom music in games..well some games have the ability, while others do not. Yep, just like the Trophies and Home support/nonsupport.

Many seated in the PS3 section will argue "it isn't fair to criticize Sony or the PS3 for this since those features have just been added. You have to give them time".

Ummm excuse me, but why should they deserve time? Those features I listed above, you know the ones we should be patient with in regards to the PS3, have been available and fully supported/integrated in every 360 game across the board from day one. Custom music, a robust fully functional achievement system that has changed the landscape of gaming and expanded the idea of replayability in games this generation and geneartions beyond. Xbox Live is MANDATORY across the board for all Xbox 360 games. That doesn't mean every game has multiplayer, it just means Xbox Live is intergrated into the game.(Achievements, leaderboards, etc.) And every game in the future on the 360 will support those, no confirmation needed. We got that long ago.

If you actually take the time to read and comprehend what I am saying you are likely to realize just how much ground Sony has squandered this generation. The previous generation was completely dominated every which way by Sony. Now they are struggling to catch up to the competition this generation. That is what happens when you think your brand name, alone, will get the job done.

Anyways, let's hope the wakeup call Sony has gotten this generation will open their eyes, because we need that strong competition to keep the gaming industry moving and innovating at the lowest possible prices. So, yep that is my rant for the day...By the way does anyone know if Final Fantasy XIII will support Trophies? lol

**Yes, I realize that BioShock no longer has the Home logo. Just using that for an example.
