Microsoft revealed on Monday a special refurbished hard drive program for Xbox 360 Arcade owners who are unable to download the New Xbox Experience due to storage constraints.
You need to be at least this big to ride this ride.
Bottom line is the New Xbox Experience (Avatars, movie service, new layout, etc.) will require 128MB of free space. Some of the console variants, like the Arcade, do not have the space necessary to download this major new update.
So on Monday, Microsoft revealed that it would be offering refurbished hard drives at a discount, and free 128MB memory cards, to those users who purchased an Xbox 360 with no memory solution.
Owners can redeem their card or drive by entering both the 12-digit serial number and the 12-digit Console ID at a special Microsoft web site.
GamePro readers who need to use this service are encouraged to detail their experience in the comments. Was it easy to do? What were the challenges? Do you agree with this response from Microsoft? And... GO!

But you can alwasy buy a generic 20,60 or 120g HDD now and pop it in for a fraction of the cost of a MS HDD sponsored drive

What a beautiful bandaid to put on my stuffed 120GB HD, I mean shit, you can't even spread your account across TWO of them if you wanted to. One Harddrive, ONE account, that's it.
Oh for Gods sake MS, just allow the use of external drives, hell YOU can even sell them I don't care.
I don't like deleting things before I want too. This is just silly.

I know the all xbox's didn't come with a hard drive because they wanted to keep the prices of the console down. This is one of drawbacks of having some the console without a hard drive.

Hey goofball do you happen to know the price of a sponsored hard drive? I'm curious since as you pointed out they are cheap already! You can get a 20gig for 24 dollars NEW. So Microsoft must really have a deal going on(I hope).

I never knew they were that cheap. I know you can grab a 120g generic HDD for under $50.
So when i hear people bitiching how the Arcade Xbox360 is a rippoff. I laugh. You can buy an Arcade and $199 and pick up a $45 120gb HDD

Now I don't have a 360, so maybe I'm a little off here, but why on earth would I want a refurbed drive or a free $40 memory card? MS should be doing more since they've already jilted the majority of 360 owners with RROD. It shows absolutely no real care about their customers to offer cheesy solutions.

I think you have to use an xbox brand HDD . You can't put a generic HHD in there. The PS3 on the other hand you can put any compatible HDD even up to the 500GB.
