New PSP firmware adds mobile PlayStation Store support

Later this month, Sony will release the PSP firmware update 5.0, which most notably adds support for mobile browsing and buying on the PlayStation Store.

The new PSP firmware update 5.0 will add the ability to browse, and buy, games and movies off Sony's PlayStation Store. In a hands-on demo of the new PSP-enabled storefront, I noticed that the PSP storefront shares many common features with its PS3 big brother.
For one, the visual style and layout of the store is very similar to the PS3 version, though it's been optimized for handheld use with several shortcuts to popular functions. You can also download PSP games directly from the store and install them to your PSP (Memory Stick required). We spotted a new store category called "UMD Legacy," which contained a selection of top-selling PSP games in download form. We spotted Parappa the Rapper, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 2, Puzzle Quest, Twisted Metal: Head On, Loco Roco, and several others.
I noted eight categories in total for the PSP PlayStation Store, including Demos, Media (videos and the like), PS One classics (playable on the PSP), UMD Legacy, and more.
The new firmware will also add a sleep timer for the internet radio feature, as well as a long-awaited new full-screen QWERTY keyboard option (no more cell-phone-style typing!).
While the PSP firmware 5.0 looks to be a welcome improvement, it was somewhat overshadowed by our next demo: the new PS3 firmware 2.5.

Looks pretty good to me, I've been wanting a wi-fi store for a while. This is great for when you're on the road away from your PC or PS3.

Looks good,. the Resistance game will give me a reason to start playing my PSP again,. maybe i will just infect it and let my son play that Resistance while I play R2 on PS3

This is the PSP update i think everyone has been waiting for! I am glad the online experience (Playstation Store, and Internet Browsing) are finally being updated and expanded on the PSP!
