Chainsaws ahoy! Gears of War 2 nears Nov. 7 release

Microsoft today announced that Gears of War 2, the sequel to the five million unit selling original, has been sent to manufacturing.

"After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we've created," said design director Cliff Bleszinski. "This is Epic Game's best work yet, and we can't wait to see the response from fans and newcomers alike."

In Gears of War 2, Marcus Fenix and company "take the fight" underground, where enemy Locust aliens have begun digging tunnels capable of destroying entire cities. The game launches worldwide for Xbox 360 on Nov. 7, carries an MSRP of $60, and is rated mature.

The original Gears of War, released in 2006, received a five star rating from GamePro.

I don't know if it'll beat Halo 3 sales for the first day/week... but I'll say it'll likely be damn close. Halo and Gears are probably the 2 most popular franchises on the 360. I keep hearing how great the first Gears was... and I'm sure the 2nd one will be better. Enjoy!

How can it be one of the best franchises ever, when it's only had 1 game and the sequel isn't out yet? The sequel looks great but let's wait till we've played it before claiming all time franchise status.

I'm gonna have to beat Fallout 3 in a week, because it's going to be tough to put Gears 2 down.
