Nintendo to publish The Conduit; Wii Speak for $30 in November UPDATE

At the fall media event in San Francisco today, Nintendo repented of a poor E3 2008 showing, focused on upcoming games, and even had a few surprises.

UPDATE: It appears Nintendo's Cammie Dunaway meant to say "first-person shooter" at today's press conference, when in actuality she said "first-party shooter" when speaking of The Conduit. In sum, it seems Nintendo isn't publishing The Conduit after all, but the game is still scheduled for an early 2009 release (somehow). Sorry for any confusion.

ORIGINAL STORY: First things first, the Japanese gaming giant announced that in 2009 it will publish The Conduit, and independent first-person shooter game with a large underground following. Previously, The Conduit did not have a publish, until today.

Next up, it was announced that Nintendo's online chat system called Wii Speak will arrive November 16 at a cost of $29.99. The peripheral allows players to freely download the Wii Speak Channel, talk with friends in up to four different locations, and trash talk on select upcoming games, such as Animal Crossing: City Folk (other titles TBD).

What's more, Nintendo announced that it will extend Club Nintendo rewards to North America this holiday. For the uninitiated, Club Nintendo (previously in Japan only) lets Nintendo loyalists complete surveys and register Nintendo products to redeem exclusive goodies available only to Club Nintendo members.

In total, Nintendo promised a number of new games slated for 2009 today, including Punch-Out!, Sin & Punishment 2, and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for Wii, and Mario & Luigi RPG 3 for Nintendo DS. A new "Personal Trainer" series was also announced, designed "to help users enrich their lives and learn new skills in fun and interesting ways."

"We have new games and new experiences for every kind of player this holiday season," said Nintendo spokeswoman Cammie Dunaway. "And that will certainly fuel increased interest in Wii and Nintendo DS. While there's no way to gauge total demand for our hardware systems, we're trying to satisfy as many of those players as possible."

wow i didnt know a new fire emblem was being developed. hopefully they include the ability to roam freely like the old shining force games. You know, so you could visit villages and stuff and then walk to the battle.

Can't believe they're gonna make another Mario RPG... just finished playing the first one and it was phenomenal! Also really love Fire Emblem series... and THE CONDUIT!!!!

Conduit looks really promising. I'll be looking out for that one. Nintendo can keep their Wii Chat. It just doesn't seem practical.
