Wii version of Rock Band 2 to support song downloads, online play

Not to be outdone by PS3 and 360 owners, Harmonix today confirmed that the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will feature both downloadable tracks and online multiplayer.

Wii online play and song downloads confirmed for Rock Band 2

Wii owners, rejoice. You'll soon have access to the same impressive library of downloadable Rock Band music as PS3 and Xbox 360 owners, replete with online multiplayer so your fake band can rehearse intercontinental style.

"MTV Games has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii version of Rock Band 2 will offer the same online functionality -- i.e. song downloads and Internet multiplayer modes -- as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 versions," USA Today reported last week. "The PS2 version, however, will not include online connectivity."

Developer Hamonix has since confirmed the revelation, much to the pleasure of Wii owners, who were denied online support in the first Rock Band released earlier this summer.

Rock Band 2 arrives November 18 on Wii, PS3, and PS2 (available now on 360). Guitar Hero World Tour, Activision's response to Rock Band, also features online play and song downloads and will release October 26 on Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS2.

The wii is so popular. It makes sense for the wii version to have all the features.
The wii does not have a hard drive. Where do all of the downloaded songs go?

It will be nice to see what the wii does about this.

I guess it's not too bad if you save the songs on an SD card, but it's not exactly a glamorous solution.

DUCESTAMINA

I guess the developers of this game had to step it up because games of this type sell well on the Wii. I believe Guitar Hero 3 sold the most on Wii.

Sire

and all NEW 40 digit friend codes for super fast access!

ya know, I still don't know what my friend code is. What a drag.

You will save them to either the 512mp of memory it has or put them on 2-4gig SD cards

This is great for Wii owners. Why should they be left out of DLC? It would be stupid of Harmonix not to.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!! Now where am I going to store my DLC???? What's a Wii Hard Drive????? Damn you Pretendo! You cheap piece of Casual 5hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's why I stuck with my PC no hard drive worries I have 1 TB of HD space and WAY BETTER Graphics.

This is good news. Maybe it will force Nintendo to add space to the Wii.

This is excellent news. Why didn't they do this with the first one? It still doesn't change the fact that Rock Bands instruments suck. I am still very intrigued by GH: World Tour though. And I'll probably end up getting that. I don't think I can handle having all those plastic instruments in my living room if I bought both. Actually, I can't afford both.
