Despite mixed reviews, LucasArts today announced that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sold an impressive 1.5 million copies in less than a week since launch.
Vader and his apprentice fight average reviews with big sales
The force is strong with this one -- at least at retail.
The 1.5 million worldwide feat makes Star Wars: The Force Unleashed the fastest-selling Star Wars game of all time, says LucasArts. Granted, there have never been as many console owners as there are today, but the accomplishment is impressive, nonetheless, and proves publishers don't need a critical hit to make a commercial impact.
"The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games," said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. "We're blown away by the response to the game."
Released on September 16, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed follows the events of Darth Vader's secret apprentice, a new character in the Star Wars universe that displaces Tie Fighters as easily as Luke Skywalker moves rocks.
GamePro critic Cameron Lewis praised the game's satisfying power-ups and beautiful graphics in his 3.5 star review while faulting the uneven combat and clunky controls.

It has had a strong start. Can it keep it up? It has some flaws that really hurt it.

I have it and I like it, . well, it passes the time.
I played Too Human right before it and honestly Too Human blows it away, . . HANDS DOWN.
But for a tired franchise that should have stopped long ago, it's a good effort. At least the Aliens don't make those annoying cute sounds like in some other Star Wars games.

The Commador 64 had the fastest load times and the graphics were killer.

This is bad because people will realize the game kinda sucks and then not buy the next Star Wars game even if it is better.

I think the game is pretty good, just the camera gets annoying. I mostly bought it for the kids, but have been playing it on and off. I know it will get thrown to the side once COD5 and Resistance 2 come out!
