Top-selling games in America this year (so far)

A new report in connection with the NPD, the official U.S. video game tracker, has announced the top selling games by console from January through August of this year. Can you guess which ones are leading the pack?
When combining 360 and PS3 sales, GTAIV is the best-selling game so far this year
The new report, care of Gamasutra, lists the top five games per current-gen console. With actual numbers missing, however, there's no telling what the top-selling game overall is, but it's likely Grand Theft Auto IV with combined 360 and PS3 sales of more than 10 million at present, according to Rockstar.
Just as Xbox 360 and PS3 share similar tech specs and third-party support, so do their respective top-selling games. On the Xbox 360, best-sellers include GTAIV, Call of Duty 4, Madden NFL 09, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (exclusive), and Army of Two in that order. Likewise, PlayStation 3 best-sellers include GTAIV, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (exclusive), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Madden NFL 09, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (also exclusive).
Meanwhile, the Wii doesn't share a single top-selling game with either Xbox 360 or PS3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl currently holds the top spot, followed by Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Wii Fit, and the only third-party game, Guitar Hero III, the best-selling version of any console. What's more, every Wii game with exception to Smash Bros. features a pack-in peripheral.
"It's become clear that we've never seen quite a hardware success story like the Wii," writes Gamasutra's Matt Matthews. "Looking at the top five games on each platform this year, it seems we've never seen a software success story like this either."

No surprises on the list but it seems that nintendo's own games really dominate its game sales. Also I wonder how many wii fit has sold?

I'm actually suprised that Mario Galaxy isn't in the top 5 for Wii. I find that odd. Damn you Wii Fit and Wii Play.

It only covers games that came after january.

I was expecting an actual list... so after GTA 4, which game is the best selling (regardless of platform)? Sales figures would have been nice too. WTF?

That doesn't make sense... didn't Call of Duty 4 come out in 2007? They're talking about sales since January, not specific to games from 2008

Yeah..that doesn't make sense. *confused* Wii play came out February 2007.
Therefore..I am still shocked Galaxy isn't on the top sellers.
