A source has finally dropped some solid hints and features regarding the upcoming DJ Hero rhythm game.
No, this is NOT what the controller looks like. Stay tuned!
Newly acquired Activision studio FreeStyleGames is allegedly working on a DJ Hero, a clubber's version of the mega publisher's "Hero" rhythm game brand that includes the Guitar Hero franchise.
According to a source over at Kotaku, DJ Hero is a music rhythm game that will let players "scratch to the beat of popular mash-ups with a laptop turntable peripheral."
The key to any rhythm game, the controller, is completely unique. After almost 12 different prototypes, it apparently resembles a simplified DJ Deck.
"There is a platter for scratching which will act like the strum toggle on a Guitar Hero guitar. Above the platter are three buttons for sampling. The controller also includes a cross fader and a sound effects dial which will act like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero," Kotaku reports.
And instead of the colorful, cascading musical notes found in Guitar Hero, DJ Hero music will revolve around a virtual record.
"To play you will have to either hold a sample button and scratch, just hold a button or just scratch as the neon icons flow around the virtual vinyl," the source said.

Cool, as Guitar Hero made a lot of people want to start playing guitar, if this is successful, everyone will start wanting to be a DJ. PartyDisk

i don't see how they can really make this work and be fun. a guitar is across the board familar. A dj deck is not familiar to the masses and if oversimplified will backfire on the people they are trying to reach.

Being a person who favorite music is rap and Hip & Hop, it's nice to see a legitimate publisher try to release something for this genre of music. I just think it's funny that people are shooting this idea down beofre they know anything. Typical when people rap / hip& hop into a conversation but rock music is just fine. Typical of certian folks.
I am looking for ward to this being a success becuase everybody doesn't want to listen rock music or play a guitar.
Sorry if that offends folks.

If this game is done right it could end up being a very entertaining game come launch day........if only for a certain few. I'm a DJ and I know how to work a real deck,so this game has strong potential with actual DJ's and fans of the art. Please don't let me down Activision!
