Microsoft on Thursday was quick to remind cohorts that price drops work, days after the company slashed the price of the Xbox 360 for a second time last Friday.
I double up after lowering my prices (get it while it's hot)
According to Microsoft, retailers saw a 100 percent surge in Xbox 360 sales last weekend compared to the previous one. Starting last Friday, Xbox 360 prices were cut $50-80 depending on the model.
"At $199, Xbox 360 is now not only the most affordable next-generation console available, but it also packs more entertainment punch per dollar than any other consumer electronics device connected to your TV," Microsoft said in a statement.
The boost couldn't have come at a better time for Microsoft. In the first half of the year, monthly sales of PlayStation 3 have overtaken Xbox 360 for second place in the console war, which has been largely dominated by Nintendo Wii since its release in 2006.

I will get a second one W00t. now seriously this is great news for MS and me. This will definitely put pressure on Sony to make another pricecut on their system.

This is to be expected witg a price cut. But the $199 is the sweet spot for consoles and its going to sell this holiday season...especially if they bundle it with games..Sony and Nintendo said they have no plans for a proice cut, however you know this will change if the sales continue this way for the Xbox360. Competition is great for us all

Yeah, and sony keeps hurting themselves how many more versions are they gonna come out with, I mean there has been more then one 80 gb ps3 system on the market, and the wii, well can't find one if your life depended on it, no matter I own all three systems, and two xbox 360's one pro and one elite.. Does anyone know if anyone is accepting the hd drive as a trade in credit anymore?

Congrats Microsoft! I am very curious to see how holiday sales will do, I think Microsoft can really move some units at this price. What games do you think would be good to bundle with? Now I hope they drop the price of the wireless adapter!

Man, I nailed that one. . . I knew it. Throughout gaming history $199 is the sweet spot for all consoles and usually you will get a double in sales for about 4 months then it will level off to just under that number for the long haul.
This is great news for anyone who hasn't been able to afford a next gen. console. . Now that there are games in the bargain bin, they can get the console and a few choice games right from the start.
This is good for gaming, . . this holiday season will now be owned by the 360.
