Nintendo 'flattered' by Mii-like Xbox Avatars

Just what does Nintendo think of the glaringly borrowed Microsoft Avatars? They're fine with it, says company president Reggie Fils-Aime.
Left: Nintendo Miis, launched in 2006. Right: Microsoft Avatars, launching in 2008
"Copying is a way of flattering, so were very flattered," said Fils-Aime through a translator, when asked in this month's issue of Club Nintendo (the Latin America equivalent of Nintendo Power) what he thought of the recently announced Xbox Avatars.
Xbox Avatars were first unveiled in July at Microsoft's E3 press conference, in an obvious move to mimic the viral success enjoyed by Nintendo Miis. While Miis launched with Wii in 2006, Avatars won't arrive on Xbox 360 until later this year through a free Fall Update.
Outside of the competition, Fils-Aime also dished on Wii storage and ongoing DS redesign rumors. Contrary to wishful thinking by fans, the presidente said Nintendo will not make a Wii hard drive but will invent a better solution, and that his company won't release a redesigned DS until its sales decline.
The DS has been in a tight race with the Wii over the last 18 months as the best-selling console in the world.

Really though, who hasn't copied from Nintendo. It will soon be forgotten by who and how this type of Avatar became the trend or "Industry Standard."

MS shouldn't have made avatars. They just look foolish copying off of Nintendo's idea, especially if it's not tied to some other game or purpose (such as PS3's HOME).

We already knew the big N was throwing it's weight behind holographic technology, why do people keep asking when the HDD is coming out when Nintendo already addressed that?
As for a redesigned DS, wtf? Make a NEW console, not a rehash of an older one that has games that aren't compatible with anything but the new model. It's just like Sony's decision to have video output in their new PSP's, but it would be even worse.

It is funny to hear Sony fanboys call MS a copier but thats exactly what Sony did with its fall update. Copied MS features.. Everyone does it. Seems the only company being innovative is Nintendo and Sony and MS are stuck in copy mode.

Nintendo was on to something when they made the Miis. Microsoft knew this and added avatars to the 360's think tank. But Nintendo and Microsoft can keep their avatars,I'll be going with the ones on PS3's HOME when it comes out (and not just because I don't own and Wii or 360 yet).

I think the Wii like avatars are an option and for non hardcore games. Everyone copies some good features from each other. I won't waste my time with this feature on my 360 but some of you might like it. I'll pass on it.
