Report: New Nintendo handheld launching next spring

A new report published on Thursday lends further credibility to incessant rumors that Nintendo will release a new handheld by next spring.

Report: New Nintendo handheld launching next spring

According to IGN hearsay, citing no sources, a new Nintendo portable of some kind "is indeed inbound and should be debuting in April or May of 2009." IGN also reports that the new handheld will include widescreen displays, in addition to the already rumored dual touch screens, much like the current DS.

Though IGN admits that the new device could be either a proper DS successor or refresh of current hardware, the tight launch window suggests the latter. Nintendo has so far denied the rumors, but the company is expected to announce a new model soon, given its propensity to release a new handheld or redesign every 2-3 years.

The last Nintendo handheld, the Nintendo DS Lite, was released on June 11, 2006.

Sweet, if it isn't like the ds micro, then i might sell my current ds for this one. Of course if this new one doesn't break as easily and plays gba games and ds games on it.

Probably just a redesign to help spark more interest in Japan to compete with the surging PSP sales.

Whaaaaaaat, no doub. The release date sounds about right but who knows. Why do I have a feeling that their gonna release Connect 4 or chess/checkers to take advantage of the dual touch screen with 2 people on 1 handheld. My question is, Card or Disk?
