After multiple retail leaks, Microsoft on Wednesday finally announced $50-80 price cuts on all Xbox 360 models.

It's official: Xbox 360 price cuts coming September 5

The Xbox 360 Arcade (left) is now the cheapest console on the market at $199

Starting this Friday, Xbox 360 Arcade (without hard drive) will retail for $199.99, followed by the Xbox 360 "Pro" for $299.99, and Xbox 360 Elite for $399.99. The news has widely been known for two weeks now, thanks to early retail fliers.

"We are thrilled to be the first next-generation console on the market to reach $199," said Xbox presidente Don Mattrick. "The majority of consumers make the decision to buy consoles once the price falls to this mark, making this an important milestone for consumers and the industry."

As it currently stands, the Nintendo Wii retails for $250, making the Xbox 360 Arcade the most affordable console available. The PlayStation 3, by contrast, currently sells for $399 and $499 depending on the model.

this is great, the arcade is even cheaper than the wii...I hope this puts pressure on MS so they'll have a price cut...something I don't see until next year. I'm getting a either a 60 GIG or an Elite.

___________________That's pretty cheap. I think I'm finally ready to get one. I'll just get the arcade and use my PS3 as my main gaming system.

This might make the 360 out sell the PS3 through Sept.-Dec. unless the PS3 has a price cut as well, but from what I heard there wont be one for awhile.

Sony themselves said they wont have one for awhile sense they will loss more money than they already are if they do. And I'm not saying the PS3 isn't worth the money because they are with the blu-ray and everything. Just they wont have a price cut anytime soon.

I'm gonna buy the Arcade to go with my 360 pro. This way I can keep 1 360 at home and 1 at college with me, so all I have to do is transfer the hard drive. Much safer this way.

This will be good for M$, but I don't see Nintendo cutting the price of the Wii since supply hasn't caught up with demand.
