Source: Square Enix may charge for Final Fantasy XIII demo

According to a translated Japanese interview with Sqaure's Tetsuya Nomura, gamers might be able to buy a Final Fantasy XIII demo at retail.

Give me some money, and I'll give you the demo...

Square's Tetsuya Nomura has allegedly let slip the fact that Square Enix may sell the 90-minute Final Fantasy XIII demo separately at retail.

Previously, we knew the demo would be included as a pack-in with the Asia-only Blu-Ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Charging for a demo is nothing new for this generation of big budget games. Earlier this year Sony charged gamers $40 for the privilege of playing Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Here's hoping Square doesn't charge too much of a premium for the demo--they've made fans wait long enough as it is!

it says XIII in the headline, but XII in the article.. anyways, what happened to free demos? pay to try a game? no thanks

paying for a demo is kind of ridiculous. but then again, FF13 is gonna sell even if they charged $100. so from a business stand point, why not charge for a big demo? i know people will pay to play 90 minutes worth of demo.

if it's $10 or under i'll pick it up, anymore then that and I think i'll just wait on the game,. wait i'll probably be getting the Blu-Ray version of Advent Children anyway,.

M$ is the one milking their customers for money? At least we get demos for free. GT5 Prologue and now FFXIII demos you have to pay for. Maybe Microsoft and Sony aren't so different after all.
Also, I know people will defend the demos, saying "You'll pay for it, but you'll get a long demo." I hope this is true, but the Too Human demo on Xbox 360 took me an hour or so to complete, and that was free, so there shouldn't be any reason why FF or GT5 shouldn't have been free either, no matter how long the demo is.

I don't know about you, but I would not want to play 90min worth of demo. Yea you try it, but I wouldn't want to play that much of the game again when it is released. I prefer short demo's that Ican complete in 30min.

The game looks good so far, but I agree, paying for a demo is kind of dumb. However if they included the demo with Quore, then maybe I might pay a few extra bucks.
