Xbox 360 'approaching' graphics limit, says Gears 2 producer

As expected, the Xbox 360 is slowing on the "wow" graphics factor as the console makes it over the hill.

Xbox 360 'approaching' graphics limit, says Gears 2 producer

This might be as purty as she gets, boys.

"We're certainly approaching the upper end of [Xbox 360 graphics]," said Gears of War 2 producer Rod Fergusson, in an interview with Gamasutra last week. "But just looking at all the [PAX} demos we saw today -- ours and others -- it's clear that all the games just keep improving, and keep pushing that bar."

Historically, consoles reach their graphics potential near the middle to end of their five-year life expectancy. The Xbox 360 will celebrate its third year on the market this November.

But that doesn't mean Xbox 360 owners can no longer expect graphical flourishes in the coming years. Says Fergusson, "There will be games in development that won't ship until 2010, and I'm sure they'll look killer... I still think there's room to grow."

This is probably a sign that their will be a new xbox in two or three years. I hope it doesn't happen until five years later. I hope though that they allow you to keep all you xbox 360 data for the new xbox, or they might just fuck that up again.

Graphics talk is silly. The PS2 had the weakest graphics of last gen and XBOX was far ahead of the PS2. It still sold a lot more than XBOX. Therefore the minimal gap between 360 and PS3 graphics will mean nothing.

You could and should argue the same for the PS3. All consoles are approching their "graphics limit". Fact is 360 games generally still look and play better than the PS3 counterparts. When the PS3 starts to dominate in that are, than we can talk about the limitations of the 360. Until then, 360 is still king of the hill.

actually no, because they are already games that looks better than 360 games, and there are games that look better than gears.

your such an idiot, clearly you havent seen Drakes, MGS4 or GT5 in 1080p, also you clearly dont know that the PS3 is the only console able to technically out put signals in true 1080p. Microsoft is going to have to pull something pretty clever out of there a$$ when the new 2nd and 3rd party games like GTA start comming out and they're pushing 40 gigs on a single disk. So while 360 might be "king of the hill" right now in sales and 3rd party support, it wont be for long and definatly isnt in the graphics department.

Wow...Personally I could care less...Games like Gears of War look better than anything I would have thought was possible let alone the way the new Batman looks..Heavy Rain,NG2,Killzone 2,Gears of War 2,MGS4,RE4 ETC....So regardless games aren't going to look much better than what I've just listed this gen...Just kick back and enjoy the great graphics and great gameplay because with only good graphics the game SUCKS!!! *LAIR*

well it was really kind of obvious....i mean Gears 2 does look slightly better than Gears...but u need some good eyes to closely see and make sure.....as for Ps3, i just see games keep getting better visuals with new games coming....first Uncharted, then MGS 4, and upcoming Killzone 2...but still DEvs are not using the Cell broadband Engine to it's full potential, let's wait for the future
