Square Enix prepares to acquire Tecmo

Soon to be BFF with Tecmo?

Square Enix has moved to acquire a majority stake in struggling video game publisher Tecmo today as part of a move to bolster its own RPG-heavy line up with more action.

The takeover would also give the company a bigger foothold in the U.S. market, which responded more favorably to action franchises like Ninja Gaiden. There's also fighting franchises like Dead or alive to cosider as well.

The Tecmo Board of Directors has until September 4 to approve or reject the takeover bid. If rejected, a translated Square response states, "We will withdraw our offer." (translation, courtesy Kotaku)

interesting, maybe square could help tecmo pull off a story that actually makes sense! did anyone else understand DOA's plotline for every character fully?

I can't say I like this. I'd rather have more companies making games and more competition to keep game makers on their toes. I just hope we don't have two companies making third party titles in ten years.

Too bad everyone that was worth anything in tecmo, Team Ninja, already left.

I know that Team Ninja left and has a lawsuit against Tecmo. Does the lawsuit still stand being that it was sold off to SquareEnix.

This could be real great news. Now maybe we will be able to play Dead Fantasy for real. Here's the link to Monty Oum's creation- NO LINKS FOR YOU

On another note: If EA tries (or succeeds) in buying out other companies (like Bioware or Taketwo), that=BAD!!! But if SquareEnix, Ubisoft, or Activision does it= IT'S GOOD!!!

Why is Microsoft letting another golden opportunity get away??

Doh! I got dissed by the server. Anyway, if you want to see the Dead Fantasy videos you can find them searching for Dead Fantasy at Game Trailers .com
