In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Public Relations Manager John Drake confirmed that a fee will be imposed for those seeking to play original Rock Band tunes in the forthcoming sequel.

Drake didn't outline a specific price for the feature, which involves saving tracks on the Rock Band disc onto your Xbox 360 hard drive. No mention of whether backward compatibility will be supported on PlayStation 3 (likely) or Wii (unlikely) versions of the game. The latter's lack of a hard drive effectively excludes the possibility of being able to store tracks for use in Rock Band 2.

Note that it's entirely possible that not all tracks from the first game will be playable in Rock Band 2. Harmonix has not confirmed that all music that was licensed for the first game can be played in the sequel; in fact, licensing is the reason behind the backward compatibility charge states Drake.

Rock Band 2 drops on Xbox 360 September 14, followed by a release on PlayStation 3 and Wii in October.

if you were excited about this feature before, i doubt having to pay only 5 bucks will be a big deal at all.

Why do people always whine and complain about every little thing. There's no such thing as a free thing people. They're using the money paid to fund the royalties of the songs of the first games. So quit crying because it could be alot worse. (i.e.what we were charged for song packs from the first Guitar Hero to download to Guitar Hero II). If I remember, one GH song pack cost more than what we're being asked to pay for here to download all our RB1 songs to RB2.

Complete BS. I already paid to play the songs. Why should I be forced to pay again?Hmm maybe I should just drop RB and GH all together. Never agreed with the music industry and they seem to be in charge of the game now.Whats next? I have to pay 5.00 every month?It may sound odd but if they get away with it this time you can bet the next one they will want even more.
